Is there a reason why all weapons only have half of the muzzle velocity from RL?

Bringing real life to something that is not is pretty fruitless, especially if the game is not trying to be a sim. Gameplay reasons. The same ressons I can head shot someone with a .45 and they stand up straight and shoot me back, the same reasons the magic acme repair tourch fixes anything it touches by just waving it infront of a tank, the same way I can jump out a jet like James bond let of an rpg on a tank while I parachute down, kill the engie repairing and steal their tank. I could go on, I'm not trying to have a nasty argument I'm pointing out the 'in real life' as the sole reason for something in a game for changing something is not a good one. Again, pick up the first red orcestra, it's old now so it's cheap but I wasted so many hours in that game. | |

Not really, it would make the zoom upgrade actually useful instead of pointless, the tank gun should be very accurate and you shouldn't have to aim 10 feet above someone who is even remotely far away. Guided missile lock on range could be buffed and the flight ceiling could be increased so it's easier to stay out of range and helicopters can still own tanks as they should, I'm not saying the tank gun should be buffed so it's easier to shoot down helicopters. To me this game is fairly well balanced, but in a very boring way where everything is much weaker than it's real life counter part, in many ways making the game more realistic would also be more balanced for example the M4 is a longer heavier gun than the AKS-74u in real life which should make it better at long range but not as good in CQC, in this game the M4 is just completely superior because it fires faster, and actually has less recoil the only thing the AK has is a better FSM which makes no sense, if you make it more realistic but you still keep intact a system where Infantry<Light vehicle<APC<Tank<Helicopter<Jet it's fine. Currently this game doesn't even really do that right with APCs generally being better than Tanks (You need to shoot the APC 3 times, while the APC can kill you with one salvo of APFSDS rounds to the rear or side only in a head to head fight does the Tank have a slight advantage) APC also doesn't have weak rear and side armor. I don't understand people who say real life should have nothing to do with it, sure BF has never been a mil sim but DICE definitely does take the real life properties into account they made carbines do less damage at range, have lower muzzle velocities and are less accurate than full length rifles, but made them have better ADS while moving accuracy and hip fire to make them better in CQC. (Although the way they did it could use some tweaking because ARs are currently too good and just having better hip fire and slightly better accuracy while moving isn't enough) I don't think they need to be completely realistic but they should try to be when it makes sense and it is balanced. --- I'm interested in this... | |
^^ there is a big difference between authenticity and real life, real life is the referece and inspiration. Changes to a game because of real life because it's real life are not worth while changes and will break the game. Real life has nothing to do with it because nothing in this game is realistic. | |
Honestly there shouldn't be a zoom optic for the main gun on the tank. Having it is just asking for people to be completely useless with the tank and snipe from across the map. It doesnt happen enough now to be annoying but it definitely would if the tanks accuracy went up anymore. The tanks are pretty accurate as is anyway. I mean shooting from B to C on Firestorm you really don't have to compensate that much in terms of aiming above another tank. If vehicles in game did as much damage as they did in real life or even remotely close there would no point in even running around the map. You would be better off just having people spawn in vehicles at the star of the match and never get out of them. --- Gt: swkids | |
You have to compensate more if you use zoom. Tanks should be shooting things from far away, that's why they put big guns on them, not everybody has to be near the objective. It's a problem with this game, it's too much about CQC, if the weapon is not good in CQC it's useless (basically all sniper rifles). It's not that I hate CQC I actually pretty much never play recon and I'm always doing the objectives, but there is basically zero love for long range combat, I mean sure you can do it but you won't be as useful as anybody flinging themselves toward the Mcom/flags. I think BF needs to evolve so it's not all about rushing the objective as fast as you can. Maybe a different game mode? Vehicles could be limited, longer respawn times, greater penalty for losing them, limited ammo, etc... --- I'm interested in this... |
