Well, once he spots the guards he says to follow him to the tunnels. But he never moves. Where are these tunnels I need to enter? Thank you for any help.

Go to the green marker; it's the tunnel entrance. You'll have to fight guards around it. Don't feel stupid, I did the same thing.

Why do you have to fight? If you are like me and want to make sure you get all the optional objectives too you can just go over a building right next to the green marker and drop down. Or did fighting not make you lose the objective?

I don't think it did; but I ran into the guards without thinking about it.

You just have to avoid going to notoriety 3, you can still fight and kill the guards without messing up the optional objective.

Because some people like to play normally first, then worry about getting 100% sync later.

If you ask me, anyone who tries to go 100% sync their first time through the game is just asking for one he'll of a headache, especially in later sequences where the optional objectives aren't so gentle with you, like in the one where you have to blow up two boats without being seen and air assassinate a heavy guard, there's pairs of guards on both ships which, unless you get lucky and manage to kill both with a single arrow, will be hell for you if you have no poison darts.
