There's a difference between a challenge and BS and the optional objectives in this game hovered around BS. A good chunk of them didn't require skill, they required LUCK and that's a sign of terrible design in my book. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that these objectives were poorly thought out and Ubisoft deserves any flack they get for them in my opinion

I disliked the optional stuff myself more than one made me yell at the screen, And yes i did plat the game so thankfully they are truly optional now. What i do dislike was after unlocking Altairs robe it didnt stay on file when you start a new game.
I don't know if it's just me, but I found the full sync objectives much more annoying and intrusive to do in this game than in AC:B
In AC:B they generally seemed to go with the mission, stuff like never get spotted. Some of the optionals in this game though just felt out of place, contrived, or just painful to accomplish. Harder, sure, but not in a good way...

Couldn't agree more, they don't add anything to the missions besides frustration. In many cases they limit how you can accomplish the main mission and force you to do it a specific way every time. AC2 I always enjoyed doing the main missions, but ever since they introduced the Synch objectives in brotherhood missions have been nothing more than a pain in the ass. Missions that should be really fun become the ones I never want to play again Example: the ****ing Davinci Tank mission in brotherhood.
I don't dislike the optional objectives but I do agree that full sync-ing means wasting time silently killing people on a boat just to make an undetected air assassination seems silly because Connor probably would not have done that. He probably would have killed the troops in way silently, and then lit that mother up.

Why are people defending the optional objectives? Do the people that defend them actually have fun completing them?
I think you're not comprehending what people are saying in this thread. Its not a matter of whether of not they're fun, some are most definitely not fun in the slightest. They are there however, to provide a challenge. If a person doesn't like them, or is having trouble with one then they don't have to do it. So if you force yourself to complete them that's your choice and complaining about doing something optional is just absurd.
That's like signing up for a marathon and then complaining how much it sucked running 26 miles. And then trying to say that marathons should be done away with because you don't enjoy them. Surely you must see how ridiculous that is?
