Which Assasin's Creed?

I've been thinking about getting into this series for awhile now, and I want to know which one to get.

Will I be missing out on a lot of story if I get this one? Is the gameplay really different from game to game or is it pretty much the same?

IIRC there's a video that could summarize the previous games, although they're probably all dirt cheap by now, you could just get the Ezio trilogy which should include AC1 since it was on one of the other disks, then get ACIII for Christmas or something.

Assassin's Creed 2 is the best starting point (AC1 is crap and AC2 will tell you everything important) and arguably the best game. Brotherhood is my favourite though.

AC2's widely considered the best in the series. Start there.
