He stands for what the Assassins believe: freedom and honor. He's hopelessly optimistic, but so are the Assassins. And in the end, we get to see that. He's no different from Ezio or Altair, except he actually gets to see the truth of things. I'd be more specific, but I don't wanna reveal spoilers.
