How come everyone knows who Connor is (spoilers)

Everytime we were introduced to someone they were already best friends with Connor. But the one which really annoyed me was Haytham. How the hell did he know he was Connor's dad. The mum said she kept him from haytham and even if she didnt he wouldnt be able to recognise an adult if he saw a baby. Yeah Charles Lee eventually recognised him but he didnt know it was Haythams kid. This game just had zero thought into the writing or story.

well, Haytham and Connor kind of look a like.

other than that, I just figure it being due to Templar resources and power. They can find just about anything out(except the really important stuff)

You can assume Haytham found out who he was after Connor started taking out all his mates.

It really threw me off when he first spoke to LaFayette. It seemed like they had known each other for a long time, but I swear I never saw him before. I must have fallen asleep through a cut-scene or two.

The problem is we don't get to see all of Connor's life in the Animus (well, not that much of a problem, it would be rather boring to be honest).
Maybe he met important people at some "dark periods" between sequences and/or missions.

But yeah, it's more likely it's just bad writing.

It's not super hard to put together. Haytham was likely aware that he had a son (Lee was doing something in the woods that wasn't burning Connor's village, after all), and from there it's not a huge leap to realise that the half-native son of Haytham is the same guy as the half-native Assassin running around with a grudge against Lee and the Templars.

Templar have eye and ear all over the place, so that's how Haytham was aware of his son and his looks. Let's say that sniper see him from further then ran as soon as Connor was done wasting the bunch of soldiers.

During the novelization, Assassins Creed Forsaken (the first half of which takes place prior to the game), when Haytham returns to America after an absence, Lee informs him of events that have taken place (such as the Boston Tea Party) and that there was a hooded assassin there. Later, at another event I can't recall, Lee expresses his concern that this assassin may well be Haytham's son (as Lee is aware of Haytham's relationship with Ziio). Haytham, obviously wanting to know more, continues to watch the boy and eventually notices Connor is wearing Ziio's necklace thingy - he concludes it his son but, for a while, refuses to believe it.

This would have been nice to acknowledge in the game, because I felt the same way about everyone knowing who Connor was. There was really no explanation as to why the Templar knew who he was.

The excuse that the Templar "know things" is a little overreaching in my opinion. Even if they did find out somehow, wouldn't Connor be a little surprised that they knew who he was?

Also, it seems as though the Templar know who Achilles is, but they do nothing to kill him. Why the hell is that?

No, you weren't. You never meet him before that, and they do appear to know each other. I, too, was like "who the f*** is this guy?"
