I beat him at level 21. Don't know about 20.

Does Mari (the tiny girl) have Brave March (whole part attack buff) ? You need all the damage you can get in as little turns as possible, because you won't live too long no matter what you do. Does Lapis (medusa) have High Heal? Because that's all she'll really be using, besides her burst skill (which heals everybody to max. You might need that).

What skills Fang (Dragon Main-Character white-haired pretty boy) has doesn't matter all that much, since at this point he outdamages pretty much all his skills with normal attack. it's recommended to have level 2 Burst Skills for him, though, and maybe Hector, as Fang's Level 2 burst hits every enemy that can be damaged all at once (not sure about hector) for about as much as his normal attack (which should be doing around 200). Do NOT use it right at the beginning of the battle. Kill the first to targets with normal attacks first, and save you MP and Bursts for the next "part" of the fight, which has 5 enemies you need to kill (then one more later). Save the Burst for then. Save Lapis' Burst for the very last part, where another target opens up to deal damage to your whole part while the other 5 continue to wail at you. You are going to need it. Mari should just guard, maybe throw a few bombs, and use Brace March whenever your damage goes down again.

Make another save if you like the current team after you win, though, as you won't be seeing these people for another while.

-First Phase
You're gonna fight his two legs here. Don't use your Bursts yet.

-Second Phase
You're gonna fight his Left Hand, Right Hand, Left Shoulder, Right Shoulder and Head. (OMG so many enemies!!!). Now is a great time to unload your fury on him. Heal once HP goes 1/2.

-Third Phase
Just when you thought it's all over, his Core will show up.

I used this strategy and beat Darius on my first try albeit struggling (only a bit):

Latest equipment and the correct skills are vital. Fang can deal a lot of damage with "Power Charge" and Hector isn't too bad just attacking by himself, Mari and Lapis are both healers strictly, High Heal and lots of medicines, ensure you come into battle with everyone at full BURST but don't use it right away though, use BURST when you're at the top (Darius's head).

Basically:

1) Fang uses "Power Charge"
2) Hector attack every turn
3) Mari standby medicines
4) Lapis standby Heal/High Heal

Rinse, repeat and improvise whenever necessary and you should do fine. My followers are all high leveled (MAX) and is in LOVE mood so they take most of the attacks for their masters WHICH helps a LOT!

I beat him at lv. 22 but that was mostly because I was grinding away some followers. The whole fight will depend on your skills and followers as opposed to actual levels however. People say you should have lv. 2 Bursts but I never found it necessary. Instead I made sure I had the following:

-Power Charge on both Fang and Hector (use a combo of it and Hector's Burst to easily demolish the Head&Shoulders). Fang was doing in the ballpark of 500 with it at a cost of 10MP.
-Lapis should heal regularly, making sure you and your followers are healthy. Having your followers maxed in mood helps since then they'll deflect a good portion of Darius' attacks.
-Mari should do whatever the situation demands. I had her with a Heal for emergency and tossing attack items at any 1 target for 200 damage.

Hope this helps.

My main damage dealer on this battle is surprisingly, lapis the medusa, I got her the spray whatever spell which does 155 damage to all enemy on a group. It's still not an easy fight, because beside hitting very hard Darius ALWAYS get the first few turn for me.

Fought him on level 19, got him on the third try.

Yeah. When your Mp had been completely depleted, your items ran out and you thought that by killing the head its all over, Darius just gives you that crap.

I somehow grinded to lvl22 (basically going back in and out of the dungeon as I ran out of items or someone died!), and managed to take him out the second time around. The Core was a nice surprise. ;p

Burt yeah, only Fang made it out alive. :p

That core completely caught me unaware too. Mari and Lapis died on me.

Stupid Darius. That said he and an optional boss in 4 are the only hard bosses. Later bosses and even Elites get easier the later you meet them. >_>
