Hey man, you can carry a bajillion swords, herbs and such. You weigh too much to swim. I love games that don't make you micro your inventory all the time :)

Hey man, this game was made by the same studio that made Gothic/Risen.  AFAIK, you could swim in those games despite the fact you didn't have to micro your inventory. :)

You can't swim in Risen 1 either. Giant sea monster EATS YOU!

And I don't think you could in Gothic either.

You could actually swim in gothic, it was disabled in arcania though for some reason.  Anyway your logic still fails, swimming exists in pleanty of rpg's, wow, guild wars to name a few, yet they still wear their heavy armour and all of their equipment in their bags.

Gameplay>logic

Some people have a pathological fear of the ocean. For example- me. I'm 24 and I don't know how to swim yet. I'm terrified of underwater. So just pretend the nameless hero is such a character?

Why would he be willing to become a pirate though? :p

Did you look at my screenshot? THOSE are in the water. He stays out. :) Its contrived for sure but it helps set natural barriers which I very much prefer over invisible walls.
