Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure
Called Around 30 Stores
Back To: Board List | Topic List | Topic Archived
I made a large round of calls to many a store accessible to me and then one or two out of the range I'm willing to go. What did I find? Nothing new, just that there are either Starter Packs or nothing save for one Gamestop that has a Darklight Crypt. That one's special, though, and under good management, so I'd expect it to be the exception. What I wanted to throw out there is that, somehow, this game has made a name for itself seemingly since the holiday season. In November and December, I could call and the employees would be unsure what Skylanders are. In one Target, the employees did not even know where the toys were shelved (in the Electronics section)! Now, we've come to the point where many employees have things to say about Skylanders, from "Even the most basic characters are on eBay for $50.", to "I called this back in October. I knew it was gonna be Pokemon-big.". and "You're, like, the 30th person to call between today and yesterday looking for these.". One older gentleman even gave me information for a hobby store I didn't know about. Alas, that was no good, too. Point being, now, people can talk about Skylanders, but it's not about how dangerous Drobot is, it's about how rare he is. What bothers me about that last one is that there are others looking for the same thing, which is nothing new except, lo and behold, some evidence to support the fact that frustrations posted on the FB wall are not, in fact, detached from reality. I had a few folks give me shipment dates, but the troubling part is that these shipments tend to be those boxes of 6, meaning I probably will not get one, in any case. Me and the other 23 people who called that single TRU, assuming one figure goes to one family (which is unlikely). So, what happened? Something changed. "Random boxes" will not last long anywhere. The figures were selling like hotcakes months ago, so what about now when any of the toys can be considered rare? --- Playing 'chicks' is an elegant game developed by Louis XIV.
