~ Dragon's Dogma FAQ ~

#1kJHGlPosted 1/27/2012 6:00:00 PM
Request sticky if the thread pleases you.

I thought that I might as well create a little FAQ for the game as some people are wondering what the whole game is about.

Q: What is Dragon's Dogma?

A: Dragon’s Dogma is an exciting new franchise which redefines the action-RPG genre from the team that produced some of Capcom’s greatest action games. Set in a huge open world, Dragon’s Dogma offers an exhilarating and fulfilling action combat game with the freedom to explore and interact in a rich, living and breathing world.

Alongside your party of three, you set out to track down and destroy a mysterious dragon. Your teammates fight independently of you, demonstrating prowess and abilities that they have developed based on traits learned over time from you and your actions.

Dragon’s Dogma offers a near endless opportunity to help develop partner characters to fight alongside you. With an epic story and incredible action, Dragon’s Dogma is set to be one of Capcom’s newest hit franchises.

Dragon's Dogma also features many RPG elements such as statistics, classes and customization. The player is able to freely customize their class and can mix and match classes if it suits them. Equipment can be purchased from shops as well as looted and armor can be expect to provide resistances whereas weapons will have different attack strengths.

The player is also able to customize their pawns (companions) in what classes they shall be and they can also customize their appearance just as they can customize the appearance of their own character with a very deep character creator which not only features full facial customization but also allows the player to edit their character or pawn's body and posture.

Like most RPG's, the game features side quests.

Features:

• Highly Stylized Action Combat – The creators of this game were responsible for the action hits – Resident Evil® 4 and Devil May Cry® 4.
• Fight With Ability – The soul of combat comes down to how the game is played, where you strike the enemy, and how you react to their attacks.
• Accessible Depth – Bringing an unprecedented level of depth to the action genre, every decision has an effect on gameplay in an intuitive way that does not require micromanagement. The weight of your weapon, the material of your armor – even the length of your legs – plays a role in how you fight your battles, but does not interrupt the flow of the action.
• Epic Adventure – Dragon’s Dogma is built from the ground up as an action experience for consoles with a continuous, epic storyline that stands alone in style, scope and substance.
• Open World – Utilizing Capcom’s proprietary MT Framework engine and the groundbreaking graphical styles and lighting effects used in Resident Evil® 5 and Lost Planet® 2, Dragon’s Dogma expands the environment to create a vast, richly detailed world, ripe for exploration.
• A Rich Population – In addition to interacting with hundreds of fully voiced NPCs, you’ll be able to fight a large variety of creatures, from goblins to griffins and dragons. Each enemy requires a different strategy and provides a unique experience.

Classes:

Dragon's Dogma features three basic classes that the player can begin as:

• Strider
• Fighter
• Mage

Advanced Classes:

Advanced classes are classes that can be reached by further leveling up.

• Warrior
• Ranger
• Sorcerer

Hybrid Classes:

Hybrid classes are mix and matches of the basic or advanced classes.

• Assassin
• Mystic Knight
• Magic Archer

What do classes do?

Classes determine what weapons your character will be most proficient in and also what abilities your characters can use. Since you can freely mix and match classes however, you can have a character who uses a two handed weapon but who can simultaneously cast magic.

Release Date:

2012
US ~ March 27th
EU ~ May 1st
JP ~ Unknown

Story:

The story goes that you are the arisen who is a chosen one. Originally, you were living in a village as an ordinary person but then a dragon attacked your village and stole your heart. You are brought back to life through some seemingly unknown miracle and that is when you begin your quest as the arisen to find the dragon and slay it.

Pawns:

Pawns are special beings that come from a place known as the rift. The player can have three of them at a time. One is a main pawn who remains with the player for the whole game whereas the other two are optional pawns. Pawns can be customized and learn from battle where they will shout out advice to the player. Pawns may also perform specials moves where they may grab an enemy so that the player can attack them while they are defenseless. Basically, they will work together and with you - their leader. Commands can be issued to them such as Go, Come here, Attack and Defend.

Pawns can be rented to other players online where they will gain extra experience and they may also learn the weakness of a certain monster that you've yet to encounter and thus, when they return to you, they will tell you the weakness of that monster should you ever encounter it.

Combat:

Combat is an important part of Dragon's Dogma. The player has the ability to grab any enemy that they want. If the player has enough strength and if they are big enough, they can pick certain enemies up where they can throw them if they wish. The player can also grab hold of large enemies such as dragons, griffins and golems in which they can climb freely over them and attack them wherever they want. Companions can also do this. However, stamina drains when the player is using the grab feature and thus the player will need to be careful when using it.

The player has light and heavy attack options which can be combined with each other and the player can also employ skills. What skills are available depend on the class of the character. If you're using a shield and sword, you can bash enemies with your shield and you can also create distractions with your shield to draw enemy attention to yourself. An archer's skills include raining multiple arrows down in a chosen area or performing one powerful shot from one arrow which takes long to fire but does deadly damage in return. Mages abilities include offensive spells such as tornadoes, fireballs or party beneficial spells such as healing spells or flaming weapons.

The player can also command pawns in battle and let them do the fighting completely while they watch. Capcom described this method as using your brain to win the battles as you'll be ordering your pawns about and thus you'll have to be tactical.

The World and Exploration:

The player can expect to explore different towns where merchants and quests can be located and they can also expect to find creatures and monsters freely roaming the wilds. There is a day and night schedule and creatures and monsters change accordingly. NPC's also have 24 hour schedules. The player can also expect to explore caves and dungeons.

The player can quickly fast travel to locations they have been to if they place a marker there and then use a teleport to quickly jump back to that location.

The player can mine for ore in certain locations which can be used for crafting.

Choices and consequences:

Their are choices in the plot which will have effect the plot in some way. There will also be consequences for killing innocent people. For example, the guards will be after you and you will also suffer charisma lost which will make NPC's less trusting of you.

Other Information:

~The developers have claimed that it takes 30 hours to beat the main quest and 100 hours to play through all the content in the game.

~The developers have said that it takes 1-2 hours to trek across the world.

~Romances are included in the game.

~The main pawn is part of the story.

~There is more than one dragon to fight and they can be fought in the wilds.

~ Griffins, cyclops and golems are just three of the giant enemies that the player can encounter.

~Harpies can grab the player and lift them up into the sky.

~The player can be taken up in flight with a griffen if they hang onto it as it's about to fly. This has dire consequences if the player runs out of stamina and falls off while the griffen is flying about in the sky.

~You will have village leaders, dukes, kings, royalty living in a castle, and all the people inhabiting towns with all kinds of occupations. There will be characters in the game that affect the story. As the story progresses, the game will introduce new characters that are integral to the tale and certain roles they play.

~Each pawn has their own story.

~Your character's height and weight effects certain factors. For example, a small character wouldn't be able to pick a big character up and a slim character will find it harder to navigate in environments where the wind is strong whereas a heavier character (either heavier by armor or body weight) will find it easier to navigate in such environments.

If this game really pulls all these elements together and makes them as good as they sound, it'll be brilliant.

This game does look good. The guy using his bow & arrow looked sweet.

I'm getting KOA this week so will stay away from here as much as possible so that I don't end up rushing KOA for this lol.
