What's the fishing bob for?

I mean, its description says it's for fishing, obviously, and that it's attached to a line on a rod.

There is no actual rod though in this is there? You can't actually fish like that can you? So what's the fishing bob for??

I saw an npc walking to Cassardis one day, holding a fishing pole over his shoulder.
It reminded me that we can't fish in this game, and there are no sea monsters.
I promptly threw him off a cliff.

I'm thinking it's an upgrade material, don't know what for though.

Any "rarity" can be sold to that rich guy (Fornival?) For a pretty penny. Also used for up-grading possibly.

But mostly, rarity items you just sell to that guy.

I always wondered about why he asks If I have any rarities for him, I just never made the connection, figured it would be something set aside in your inventory specifically for him. I usually just toss everything in my inventory and forget about it unless it's spare equipment to sell off or something for a side quest

I never knew that either. Does he actually pay more for them than other vendors?

I haven't done any testing save one item, and I no longer remember the specifics, but he paid more for it. (i think it was tuft of hair)

IIRC, he pays a whopping 4 gold for the fishing bob.
