The reasons for creating a channel for Dragons dogma were fairly simple.

Quick and easy communication. If your want to kill the Ur-dragon yourself, you want to have good communication, right?

Of course. It's quick and easy place to get help where you shouldn't have to wait long for a response (realtime chat), and it's simple and reliable. IRC can be especially helpful for newer players who are stuck on a quest.

The last reason was just to have fun. Back in the day IRC was all the rage. It's endured time because it's still awesome.

Why not make it the new hip and happening place of the Dragons Dogma board?

Come on! Join us!

Couldn't you just use Xboxlive instead?

Why not just use EFnet and skip all that headache of registering your nick.

You don't have to register your nickname if you don't want to, tisuko. Just type in whatever pleases you as your name (preferably your GT), and join chat.

The only reason you want to register your name is if you have anyone who may want to use your nick. Also if you want to be auto-op you have to log in. It only takes seconds to register and seconds to log in.

XBL is alright, but there are some people that are shy (not me lol), and others who would rather not listen to people talk. On IRC, you can have multiple people having multiple conversations and no interruptions goes. Some of us don't have Internet except on our phones currently so there's that also.

This sort of thing was tried when the game was pretty new and it...sort of worked I suppose. Granted we don't even really talk about DD in there anymore but still.

I will give you fair warning that topics like this can get nailed for advertising though.

Is there an Irc channel already? It just makes getting help easier, and chatting makes low level post game seem less obnoxious.

It's a chatango but the concept was essentially the same without the need to download an IRC client or use mibbit.

Some of the ancient regulars from the beginning hang out there still. Kind of became a second home on the internet for us weirdly enough.
