If you are level 115+, Brandt can earn you 1,464,845 XP per Ur Dragon slain

** Re-posted, now with correct formulas! **

Having been caught impersonating the Duke, Brandt is on the run:

http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/hh532/Asgard42/DragonsDogmaScreenshot_Brandt35.jpg

( PSN: Asgard216 )

Fortunately, with the highly useful Bezel Crown longbow which can multiply xp earned from kills by x5, Brandt can hopefully remain out of sight, aiding Arisen within the safety of the Everfall, fighting Deathless Elder Dragon Gods until this thing blows over.

Brandt was raised as a Warrior, and is strong enough to get a killing shot on the Ur Dragon even at level 90. As xp earned is heavily influenced by the levels of your pawns relative to the level of your Arisen, this means that it is possible for an Arisen of above level 90 to get an increased base xp figure while Brandt is in the party, which will be multiplied by x5 any time the killing blow is dealt by a shot from his Bezel Crown. The increased xp rate caps out once an Arisen is 25 or more levels above the pawn (level 115 or higher in Brandt's case).

-The following will assume that you are fighting the OFFLINE Ur Dragon, which is the fastest way in the game to gain xp-

Here are the xp figures that will be earned for killing an Ur Dragon with a few different party combinations:

Ur Dragon base xp:
150,000 (or 750,000 if slain with Bezel Crown)

Ur Dragon xp for a party of 2 pawns equal to the Arisen's level and 1 pawn either removed from the party, or 25+ levels below the Arisen:
150,000 * 1.25 = 187,500 (or 937,500 if slain with Bezel Crown)

Ur Dragon xp for 1 pawn of equal level and 2 pawns either removed from the party, or 25+ levels below the Arisen:
150,000 * 1.25 * 1.25 ) = 234,375 (or 1,171,875 if slain with Bezel Crown)

Ur Dragon xp for main pawn removed and 2 support pawns either removed from the party, or 25+ levels below the Arisen:
150,000 * ( 1.25^3 ) = 292,969 (or 1,464,845 if slain with Bezel Crown)

• To get this optimal rate, you'll need to first hire a Bezel Ranger of at least 25 levels below your Arisen (and another sufficiently low-level pawn, should you so choose) while your main pawn is in your party, as you cannot recruit otherwise. Then you must do the unthinkable to your beloved pawn :(
Once your level is higher than your main pawn, the pawn will gain astronomical amounts of xp, catching up to you very quickly, so leaving your pawn behind isn't generally a big problem.

• The x5 Multiplier only applies if the final blow is dealt by the Bezel Crown, so everything possible should be done to make sure this happens. If you do bring another support pawn, be prepared to make sure they do not finish off the Ur Dragon themselves. Most importantly, BE CAREFUL WHICH HEART YOU LEAVE FOR LAST! If it's near the ground, a perfectly good Bezel Ranger may decide to just melee the thing. If the final heart is on a wing... well, you're likely screwed if this happens :(
Pawns do not act sensibly when the final heart is on a wing. Don't leave a wing heart for last! I recommend leaving the hearts on the Ur Dragon's head for last, every time. Others have recommended leaving the hearts on the sides (below the wings).

• You can remove a pawn's weapons to disable their offense when the Ur Dragon is getting into the critical stage. This also applies to Brandt's daggers if he seems to be over-emphasizing them. Just be aware that an unarmed pawn may attempt, and occasionally even succeed, in tearing the Ur Dragon to pieces with their bare hands O_o

• Due to the Bezel Crown, Brandt will use up stamina very quickly, and should therefore be loaded up with stamina curatives like large mushrooms. A more expensive, but potentially more beneficial option is Mushroom Potages. They are not only stronger, but restore stamina to the entire party. If Brandt is loaded up with Mushroom Potages, you and the rest of the party will be frequently restored for large amounts of stamina while Brandt uses up and restores his own stamina.

• If, after you reduce the Ur Dragon to critical health, Brandt's shots aren't finishing it off quickly enough, you can take advantage of the stacked booster method described here:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/626515-dragons-dogma/64783146
Tagilus's Miracles raise the STR of every member of the party (whereas Conqueror's Periapts would only raise your Arisen's STR), and using 4 of them simultaneously will more than double all damage dealt by STR. Bezel Crown damage is 100% STR-based. The effect lasts for 1 minute. They are most easily obtained from Fournival.

I highly recommend Brandt. Very effective, if you know how to optimize a Bezel Ranger. Which you will need to if you're trying to lvl via offline UR.

Load him up with Large Mushrooms, he can carry a massive amount, and he is good to go.

Save Taglious's Miracle until you're ready for the keel shot.

For those interested, here is how xp is modified based on the levels of the members of your party:

Any given monster has a base xp value which is earned by all 4 members of your party if they are all of equal level. Your Arisen and your Main Pawn gain xp. Your support pawns gain Rift Crystals at a rate of 1/10 xp earned in lieu of gaining any actual xp.

The amount any given party member earns is modified 3 times—once for each of the other 3 characters. The modifier is a multiplier of:

[1 + (character's level - the other character's level) / 100]

So if you kill a Geo Saurian (base xp 900) with a party consisting of Arisen: 66, Main Pawn: 65, Support Pawn1: 54, Support Pawn2: 71, you would calculate the Arisen's xp as follows:
1 + (66 - 65)/100 = 1.01
1 + (66 - 54)/100 = 1.12
1 + (66 - 71)/100 = 0.95
900 * 1.01 * 1.12 * 0.95 = 967 (or 968 depending on rounding) xp earned by the Arisen.

The RC earned by the first support pawn would be calculated as follows:
1 + (54 - 66)/100 = 0.88
1 + (54 - 65)/100 = 0.89
1 + (54 - 71)/100 = 0.83
(RC is 0.1 per 1 xp)
900 * 0.88 * 0.89 * 0.83 * 0.1 = 58 RC (or 59 depending on rounding) earned by the Support Pawn.

The modifier stops increasing/decreasing after 25 levels either way, so any given modifier will be no higher than 1.25 and no lower than 0.75. The highest cumulative modifier is 1.25 * 1.25 * 1.25 = 1.953125. The lowest is 0.75 * 0.75 * 0.75 = 0.421875.

If you have less than a full party, the modifier for an absent character is calculated as though for a level 0 character.

Some useful xp figures to know (also re-posted from the old thread):

• It will be assumed that a "High Level" pawn is 25 or more levels above your Arisen
• It will be assumed that a "Low Level" pawn is 25 or more levels below your Arisen
• Any "Low Level" pawn can be replaced with an empty slot for the same xp result

Main Pawn + High Level Pawn + High Level Pawn:
Multiplier: 0.5625-----Ur Dragon Reward: 84,375 (421,875 if killed with Bezel Crown)

Main Pawn + High Level Pawn + Low Level Pawn:
Multiplier: 0.9375-----Ur Dragon Reward: 140,625 (703,125 if killed with Bezel Crown)

Main Pawn + Low Level Pawn + Low Level Pawn:
Multiplier: 1.5625-----Ur Dragon Reward: 234,375 (1,171,875 if killed with Bezel Crown)

No Main Pawn + High Level Pawn + High Level Pawn:
Multiplier: 0.703125-----Ur Dragon Reward: 105,469 (527,345 if killed with Bezel Crown)

No Main Pawn + High Level Pawn + Low Level Pawn:
Multiplier: 1.171875-----Ur Dragon Reward: 175,781 (878,905 if killed with Bezel Crown)

No Main Pawn + Low Level Pawn + Low Level Pawn:
Multiplier: 1.953125-----Ur Dragon Reward: 292,969 (1,464,845 if killed with Bezel Crown)

And finally, here is a link to original thread:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/626515-dragons-dogma/64734636

When the thread was originally created, it was believed that the xp modifier capped out at 20 levels instead of 25, but a lot of the work for discovering the true formulas can be found in the latter portions of the thread.

Eh, I would hire, but my pawn and I have both got Bezel Crowns and I have killed the UR thrice in the past couple of days using it. However, to any who are interested, his information is correct. The first time I killed the UR with Bezel I went from level 87 to 97, then went from 97 to 106, and then 107-114. So if you want experience gain, hire Brandt!

These days I usually give him Mushroom Potages for the party-wide effect. But Large Mushrooms are easily accessible for the entire game.

Brandt certainly isn't nearly as important if you are using a Bezel Crown yourself. The only problem with doing so is that it means you'll be leveling up as a Ranger. If you were planning to level as a Ranger anyway, then using the Bezel Crown yourself is definitely the better option.

There is potentially an advantage to using someone else's Bezel Ranger pawn over your own pawn, even if you are trying to level your pawn as a Ranger. While your own pawn is in use, (s)he will be very close to your own level (if they are lower, they'll catch up extremely quickly when enemies are killed). As a result, you won't get one of the three potential x1.25 multipliers.

Of course, that may be a worthwhile trade-off for the luxury of not having to chuck your faithful pawn into the Everfall.
