How to defeat wall of flesh for the first time in 30 seconds with a single item:

Demon Scythe.

Make bridge out of dirt or whatever.
Drop Voodoo doll.

Run just in front of lower eye, casting demon scythes and aiming them UP and IN FRONT of the WoF.

Each Scythe will hit the lower eye 3+ times and then the mouth/upper eye several times as well.

Obviously magic bonus gear helps.

My best time is 21 seconds with the Dao of Pow just dragging it along behind me. 83 Damage per hit not counting the crits does fairly well.

Using hard mode items kind defeats the point.

The wall of flesh isn't hard enough to really make someone want to make a bridge across hell, or abuse a hard to aim spell against someone with predictable movement, is it?

You know what my strategy was?
I jumped across lava and I shot him until he was dead. With my guns, bows, and flowers of fire. Winning strategy.

But all overkill aside, it must be fun to make that fight so effortless.

No need for being strictly formal on a message board, right?

True.

In that case I killed him in under a minute using the Sun Fury just dragging it behind me and occasionally jumping to kill the heads for health - this caused the weapon to bounce up and down - effectively hitting the WoF several times within a few seconds.

Honestly, with hard mode gear and armour, and some buffs, I can just stay near the boss and not worry about taking damage at all.
You can melee it to death effortlessly.

I guess the point of this is if you want to easily farm him before actually getting hard mode items.

I overestimated how difficult he would be and paved a road in hell from one side to the other(small world). When I finally fought him I didn't even end up using 1/3 of it. I only had to heal once and didn't even use the potions for buffs I made.

Yep, time well spent...

I died my first two attempts because I misjudged my jumps and landed in the lava. After the second death I just paved over the lava pools and destroyed any towers in my way. The road wasn't flat, but there were no spots where I could need to focus my attention on my jumps.

The best advice anyone can give is just to build a land-bridge over the lava pools to focus your attention on him.

Minishark.

Took me three deaths, but that's what a hellevator is for.
