JimiMorrison187Posted 4/29/2012 12:21:22 PM (edited) | If you really want to go all out go farm the dungeon brick (cannot be blown up with bombs. only brick that can stop clown bombs and save your town, cannot spread corruption/hallow) and build a wall around town. Obviously you want 2 hellevators (don't have to go all the way down, but connect them lower down for sure to prevent spread from the bottom towards town.) on either side of town to prevent the spread of corruption into your town. Put a dungeon brick wall around town and throw glass walls behind it (important because it prevents enemy spawns in town.)
Remember that corruption and Hallow can only spread up to 3 blocks away. Those vines are very intrusive though and it can see to spread further so with your Hellevators be safe and go 5 wide. Place brick (gray brick is fine and cheap) on the outside of your hellevator walls to ensure nothing can get through.
After that you are good to go. You have a safe haven.

CucumberflantPosted 4/29/2012 2:41:10 PM | One of the first things you should do when you activate hardmode is to spread as much hallow on the surface as you can. It's way less annoying than corruption, and you'll have plenty of underground corruption for item farming anyways. Also, less surface corruption = less surface corrupters = less chance of your base becoming corrupted if you don't want to make a three-wide shield around your entire base. (Corrupters can fire little balls of corruption that can spread.)
I'd also get everything from the Jungle before activating hardmode, since corruption destroys it (slowly) and you'll be wanting to do other things like searching for ores, so you may as well just get everything in the Jungle now.

Craft Holy water using some hallow seeds (can be bought from the druid after hardmode), a water bottle, and a pixie dust (drops from pixies which spawn in the hallow.) The only thing that stops corruption is hallow and some blocks, like dungeon bricks.
