Hang on a moment. What exactly IS the purpose of the Wii U?

So far, the pictures I've seen suggest that it could be used as an inventory screen for a RPG. Okay, but if you're going to have to look down from the screen, that's not that much difference from simply going into an inventory menu, right?

And people have been saying that the Wii U is not meant to be a portable console on it's own (which makes sense, with the 3DS just out). So that rules out that purpose.

I mean, I'm really struggling to think of what can be revolutionary about the Wii U, other than the name. Wii U. Weew. Phe-ew.

Looking down at the screen for a split second is wayyyy better than going to the ingame inventory and shuffling the items. And never again will people have to stop playing games because someone wants to watch tv in the living room.

To make Nintendo money? Also, to play games on.

Did you not watch E3 at all? Or read what 3rd party devs are saying?

You could for example, use it to look around a room. As a rear view mirror. In the WiiU trailer they showed it as having a golf ball on the screen and you set it on the floor, and then swing the Wiimote over it to hit the golf ball. Pretty neat stuff.

There was also a game where you could use it as a Sheild to prevent arrows from hitting you. Tons of stuff besides menus and hud's can be put on the controller. Not to mention it could function as a small touch keyboard

Depending on the game, PS3+Vita can also do that when someone wants to watch TV, while also being a fully portable device. Barring that, you could just grow a spine.

So when they want to watch TV, are you back to using a normal inventory screen? Or what? Seems a little poorly thought out. How are you supposed to play games that also use the controller screen for other things?

I'm taking this example from Ocarina of Time. To put on and take off the Iron Boots, one must go into the start menu, scroll over to them, select them, and then exit the menu. On the 3DS version it's a simple touch of a button to take them on or put them off. In the Water Temple it would save a lot of time.

I know this is a pretty specific example but I'm sure they could do the same type of thing for other games.

I'd rather do this on my computer or ON MY DAMN PHONE

Atleast bluray is appropriate for the set up.
