God Dammit Nintendo, don't you EVER learn?

Cyber Akuma ZeroPosted 6/15/2011 7:04:14 AM
Yes, there is ranting ahead. If you feel you must white-knight for Nintendo and defend them no matter what stupid decisions they make, you are free to leave this topic without reading it.

Ahem:

http://www.qj.net/wii-u/news/more-wii-u-online-functionality-revealed.html

If you look at 3DS and the online of that you'll get an understanding of where we're going with Wii U and we're taking that even further

The friend code system has also been refined. It still exists

Because we do have more younger consumers than any other hardware manufacturer or games brand we need to protect them

Translation? They STILL feel the need to play net-nanny despite all their competitors not having to, and having parental controls, and thus the friend code system that they know VERY damn well everyone absolutely hates is STILL going to be there. After all, little Timmy hearing the word "****" online will traumatize him for life and cause a billion dollar lawsuit right? Never mind that Timmy is right there on PSN or Live constantly screaming that word every two seconds. >.<

Oh.... and there is also this:

http://www.qj.net/wii-u/news/wii-u-wont-play-dvds-or-blu-ray.html

The Wii is practically the only device on the planet with a DVD drive that can't play DVD movies (I can hear the fanboys replying with the tired and utterly broken "don't you already have a dvd player?" argument already) ... and they are still pulling this with the WiiU? >.< ESPECIALLY after they demonstrated the multimedia capabilities of having two screens and "flinging" online video to the TV from the controller? I thought with the Wii getting Netflix and Youtube they were somewhat starting to relent on the "our system can't play music or movies form a disk" stance...

Old news is old.

The first quote was aimed toward the 3DS.

Reading comprehension 101 *sigh*

And second, who cares? If anything this allows the console to rely on the software as the main focus not some gimmick to sell users up a new media.

Netflix and Hulu also render this argument null.

The 8th generation of consoles will determine who will succeed and who will perish. One of the three will become a new 3rd party developer.

I heard that Nintendo is letting the developers do what they want for the online part of the system?

We should start referring to that as Troll Reading Comprehension, or TRC.

It's sadly an old form of trolling, pretending to be clueless and misinterpreting things. Most people grow out of it but this guy has been at it since the Wii came out IIRC.

Yep, thats right white knights, if someone has something negative to say about a system then they MUST be trolls jumping on a hate bandwagon, their concerns cannot POSSIBLY be legitimate. Its not like nearly every developer dosen't HATE the friend code system, nope.

Hey, remember that time all the people complaining about Red Rings early in the 360's life were classified as trolls and just simply not taking good care of their system?

Yeah...

You should practice what you preach, that first quote was them talking about how the 3DS online system will also apply to the WiiU.

Then why would Nintendo confirm friend codes are still in?

Besides, what we need is a unified system like Live or PSN, or Steam. Not a free-for-all each game having it's own friend lists and usernames scenario.

There's still conflicting reports about the online system...take this for example:

http://www.everybodyplays.co.uk/news/Wii/Wii-U-Online-to-ditch-friend-codes/695

Spilling the beans to MTV, the producer of the upcoming Ghost Recon Online confirmed to the outlet that the Wii U would feature a much greater online service - including the ditching of the infamous "friend codes", which have provided many a headache back in the day.

So I think we should wait until everything's out in the open first

Friend codes won't be a problem at all on Wii U, as being universal like the 3DS makes it just like a telephone number; it's being able to add people I meet online that will make an online experience decent. As developers are being given freedom to do as they like with online, it seems like that will be much more likely to be the case. That and that only is what I am concerned about in regards online, not friend codes. May I ask why you feel that way about friend codes specifically?

As for the DVD player thing, I'd rather keep the cost down on this rather than add an extra £20 for DVD liscencing or even more for a blu-ray player. That's personal opinion, but given that most households already own numerous DVD players it makes sense not to add it to this if it will keep the cost down.

Just FYI, calling anyone who counters your points "white knights" is just like calling anyone who is critical a troll - ignorant and closed-minded.
