Is there such thing as HD sound?

I mean as resolution on TVs increase Ive always wondered how well the sound increases alongside the resolution. I may be just my imagination but is there such a thing as standard sound or high definition sound?

7:1 surround might be considered HD I guess

So if I were to watch a video on youtube in 240p and that same video in 1080p it would sound different?

No, sound isn't measured in pixels and isn't as readily scaled as images. It all depends on the sound quality of the original file.

In truth we are all addicted to one type of game or another. One's manliness should not and can not be gauged by the types of games he plays. www.spyroworld.net

In this specific example, yes, it would sound better. But that's just because Youtube encodes the video's sound in, say, 64 kbps for 240p, and leaves the whole original bitrate (192, 256, whatever) on the 1080p version.

For games it's a completely different matter. Also 7.1 is the same thing as sound quality.

Halo fans are like the Zerg. They'll attack in infinite numbers, and will attack anything that is not their own kind.

7.1 is good... if you haven't tried 22.2 XD but then, I've only ever used the old fashioned 2.0 set up.
2.0 meaning the old boring left, right set-up, rather than 7.1 which is... something like:
front right, front center, front left, back right, back center, back left and then, the ".1" refers to a low frequency effects/subwoofer/whatever, right?
