In reality true gamers are forced to kinda bow down and choose Nintendo..
Sega IPs suck compared to Nintendo IPs...
No More Heroes. Sega IP's kinda suck.

Um...Nintendo much more third party support with the NES and SNES than Sega had with the Master System and Genesis.
Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft = Epic
replace "Nintendo" with "Microsoft" in the topic title and I'll say yeh.
Yah, Actually if Microsoft hadn't entered the console gaming area Sega would still have a piece of the pie. Basically Microsoft stole what potential Sega had, leaving them with little choice to cancel further Dreamcast development. Admittedly it's a hole Sega dug themselves. You can't not expect a profit hole canceling all Saturn games in the US a year before the Dreamcasts release. Also that year head start wasn't a good idea, most people had PS1s and N64s which meant they weren't ready to upgrade that year.
Either way Sega couldn't stand up to MS stealing it's gaming audience in the US. Hell at the time Dreamcast was actually picking up at the time of canceling it. But you know a sneak attack by MS bring PC gamers off PC tricked everyone. Even so one has to question where a theoretical Sega Neptune would be today. Worse off than Sony's PS3? Maybe it would be the Xbox360, but I doubt it. While I can see the online pushing Xbox live like quality. In that reality PC gamers are all still on PCs, and that is where the Halo and CoDs dominate.
I get the feeling Sega would be in dire trouble again, unless they had made a new Game Gear. Basically this gen all Japanese devs went handheld, to wait out production costs. It's more of what killed software after PS2. It's part of the trouble Nintendo actually ended up with. It couldn't garner PS2 finally up ports, you bet things Persona 3/4 on Wii would have netted a bigger difference in the start of Wiis life. Conversely it didn't have the power for those PC style monstrosities MS brought in. Seriously Wii wouldn't look like a joke on 3rd parties if it garnered the serious end of life PS2 games and PSP games Japan couldn't sell west ward.
Oh also remember Sega wouldn't have beat out PS2, so at most it might have made back the lost profit. So I seriously doubt a Neptune would be more that powerful than the Wii. It just wouldn't have the money too. I suppose it could be like what an HD version of the Wii would have been like. Then again PS3 wouldn't be as powerful either so maybe it doesn't matter.
In my honest opinion, 3rd party support wont be a problem for Nintendo this generation; for a couple of reasons.
1) They are trying for a push this generation for 3rd party support, this was already stated. Their approach for the Game Cube and the Wii was very laid back.
2) Going all out to grab the core audience (probably snag some hardcore fans too). This will attract some 3rd party developers.
3) Here's the big one for me, in my opinion. We all know where the next gen is going...all out power. Weather or not it meets those expectations is another story. But we know there's one company that is basically playing puppeteer: Epic. They want that UR4 engine to be the go to engine next gen. We all know the most mid-high/low budget 3rd party developers will not be able to afford it.
If Epic releases a Wii U version of UR4 engine, we'll assume it will be scaled to some degree; and most likely be a little cheaper for these developers (this is merely a guess, but it would make sense). If that were the case, then you would see more of these developers migrating over to Nintendo.
There's also a likely scenario that the other two consoles don't come close to hitting that bar, and all three consoles get the same scaled down version of the engine. If that's the case? Expect a lot of ports (unless they are first party/want to develop for the Wii U because of the controller) because the other two consoles will most likely be the parent consoles for most 3rd party games.
I see it playing out similar to something like that. Wii U games will most likely be 60 bucks. I wouldn't be surprised to see the other next gen console games to cost $70.

I would also like to add that there's a few other engines out there (squares and Frostbite 2).
Don't know if they are for sale, but there's a few more options for developers. I highly doubt this hinders Nintendo's 3rd party this gen. I think they will do fine.

Sony's gaming division is huge, are you high? So the company as a whole isn't completely focused on games doesn't mean SCE isn't completely focused and invested in games.
Look at all the studios under the Sony Worldwide Studios banner....Sony Santa Monica, Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Evolution Studios, Japan Studio, Polyphony Digital, Media Molecule, etc....
Most Wanted: Tales of Xillia, Doom 3 BFG Edition, Final Fantasy X HD
I just wish people would stop using the stupid term "true gamer"...
This game defies all logic, you should be dead in one hit from a F***ING SWORD - Soulcalibur Series
Did i suddenly timewarp back to 2002 AND dimension-warp to a reality where the Playstation didn't come around?
