Will games get too big for discs?

No 50 gigs should be fine for the next gen.

Also as for the multiple disk debate in the past extra disks were usually the result of movies and the actual game could fit on one disk but now since that's not the case multiple disks creates serious problems for developers and can negatively effect a game (especially open world games)

Also "According to the State of the Internet report from Akamai for Q4 2011, the average Internet speed in South Korea during the quarter was 17.5 Mbit/s, with a peak Internet connection speed of 47.9 Mbit/s"

I could've snagged Persona 3 FES off PSN if I wanted to for 10 bucks, but I went the better route and paid 20 for the disc from Amazon. Would rather support physical media.

I would rather pay $10 more dollars than have to wait on a download thats10 hours+ to play a game.

1000 Mb download speeds will fix that.

In which country does that exist? Unless you are not talking about seconds of course. I believe Korea has the highest with 8 MBps, and I believe the US is somewhere around 6.something MBps. Though who can easily afford those kinds of speeds...

In the US pretty soon. Google Fiber will be 1000 Mbps for $70 a month and it's going to be available this year.

Only in Kansas City.

That's where they're starting, yes.

Will games get so big on Wii U that it will become pointless to use discs and just go completely digital?

I have seen certain Complete Editions of RPGS that go up to 15-20GB. I am thinking it's going to be even harder and longer to download universally. I wonder how the world is going to keep up at this rate.

Wii U disc are at least 25GB(maybe 50GB) so if you don't mind spending hours downloading then yes. Internet speeds are not fast enough in most regions so they are effectively a limit on how big a game can be even if it is digital. Then there's the issue of storing the data for Nintendo/Sony/MS/Valve/EA.

It happened with 360 already, games were cutting content to fit on it and of course the content got cut on ps3 version too.

That's because the 360 was more backwards than the Wii. It tried to beat blu ray and force their junk down everyone's throat and it backfired hard.

That doesn't mean they are too big for discs in general.

If we were going by that dumb logic, his question would already be answered by the PS1 era.

there's been multi-disc interactive movies (did any actual games require that much space?) since PS1

space won't be the problem.....

That disc format was vapourware. Optware, the company behind it, died. Holographic discs will exist at some point in the future (although not in the next few years at consumer level), but HVD is a complete non-starter.
