JTaanaaPosted 8/25/2012 9:38:09 PM | I recently posted this quote in the thread, but I think it may give some hope that we'll see FINAL FANTASY on WIiU. Granted, this was from last year, but... we haven't heard anything to the contrary since then.
But Yoshinori Kitase DID express interest in bringing FF to the Wii U.
"Three or four years ago we joked around about developing a Final Fantasy game on the Wii Fit balance board. But after seeing Wii U revealed at Nintendo's conference, we are now considering the possibilities of bringing the Final Fantasy series to the format. - Square producer Yoshinori Kitase."

There was a time when the idea of getting a mainline FF after the SNES days was impossible. With N64, it was because of Nintendo's decision to go with cartridges and the subsequent fallout with Hiroshi Yamauchi. With GameCube, not enough memory on the disks (and despite S-E giving Nintendo FF Crystal Chronicles, they still pretty much avoided the system). With Wii, it was underpowered technology. Now, however, Square-Enix no longer has an excuse to NOT put a FF on the WiiU. The system is up to date, is capable of running many engines (even the Luminous one is scalable to work on PS3, meaning it can also be used on WiiU) So, while we probably won't hear about a FF for WiiU at September, I wouldn't be TOTALLY surprised if we get one for the WiiU sometime along its life anyway. Relations between Square-Enix and Nintendo have been much better since the N64 days and with DQX on the WiiU, I don't see much of a reason why Nintendo won't get the next FF (FFXV). |

cb52211Posted 8/25/2012 9:44:15 PM | Hopefully. I also hope they continue to remake the NES and SNES games like they did on the DS with 3 and 4. After seeing those two I thought we'd get 5 and 6 as well, but that never happened.
Also, speaking of DQX, I hope the Wii and WiiU versions get localized since that game looks awesome. |

And Wii U can apparently handle that, right? That tech demo was running on a PC with a 580 with an i7 CPU, so no, the Wii U can't run it 100% but it could run a scaled down version. Drop the resolution to 720p and scale back various parts to get it running. On the main topic, I expect XIII-3 to come to the Wii U. Maybe with a CG movie to show the events of the first two games to get Nintendo players up to speed. --- PSN = Pendragoongp Dragon's Dogma Pawn = Kasumi - Strider |
Sirian_HawkPosted 8/25/2012 10:49:40 PM | Well, I don't know about the Wii-U, but after Sony goes bankrupt trying to bankroll a super PS4, there will no longer be any form of exclusivity to that console. Thus we may actually get Versus XIII on the Wii-U's successor (or its successor's successor... >.>). --- "To hell with your spoiled baby! Zoidberg needs those shoes!" |

PendragoonPosted 8/25/2012 11:39:48 PM | Square goes where they can make the most money. They went to Sony because they had CDs instead of Carts, more space and a lot less overhead. They started making FF13 for the PS3 due to how well the PS2 had done.
By the time the Wii truly took off they couldn't jump ship, too much money had been dumped into the engine. Then MS came along with a checkbook and a smile and they ported the game and engine to the 360 (and changed the game considerably to get it to fit on the 360)
I am surprised that no high profile FF game came to the Wii, but Dragon Quest 10 was no surprise. Even if it was a MMO. I fully expect that SE will support the Wii U considerably once it gains some steam, until then it will get mostly current gen ports if anything. --- PSN = Pendragoongp Dragon's Dogma Pawn = Kasumi - Strider |
