Anyone think the Wii U will have the ability to play (3)DS games eventaully?

With every even Nintendo console, they've sold an adaptor of the sort; the Super Famicom/SNES had the Super Game Boy, the GameCube had the Game Boy Player, and now that there's the tablet touchscreen, there's no reason the Wii U couldn't play DS games, using the tablet as the bottom screen and the television as the top.

And I realize I'm reading a lot into this, I'm not saying it will happen, and admitting this is mostly optimism speaking, but I like to think it could surface at one point.

I desperately want this functionality to be added to the WiiU.

There is no reason it couldn't work with a simple adapter that plugs into one of the front USB ports, considering the WiiU has 2 screens, a mic, and all the other shenaniganry of the DS line.

The only things that might be problematic are:
Games that use the bottom screen as the "main" screen.
Games that use the gimmick of closing the lid during gameplay (*coughphantomhourglasscough*).

Games that use both screens simultaneously are gonna be a problem too.

NSMB would be fine. Kid Icarus wouldn't.

DS games? Eventually.

3DS games? Nope. Maybe the next Nintendo system, but not WiiU. 3DS just came out - they wouldn't want to cannibalize sales of a system they're heavily supporting.

Gaming is like a pair of boobs - Sony and Microsoft fight over whos boobs look more realistic, while Nintendo is about having fun with them - Walkiethrougie

I never really looked at the bottom screen for Kid Icarus, but regardless, I can certainly see your point.

Seems more like it'd boost sales. The GBA was only a couple years old when the Game Boy Player was released.

I am hoping I will be able to play DS/3DS Pokemon games on the big screen like I did back on the Gamecube Gameboy player back in the day.

I would love this. I really don't like playing handhelds, I prefer a big screen, and the small controllers can sometimes be hard to use. I always hurt my hand on my 3DS, like when I'm playing OoT and I'm running backwards (SPEEDRUNNING, i am su proooooooo, nooobz) my palm hits the corner of the 3DS. That's why I ussually buy a DS game, and then download a rom and play it on an emulator. Unless the touch screen is a big part of gameplay it's not a big deal.

They could sell the DS/3DS peripheral for like 2/3 the price of the 3DS, and still make a lot of money.

It would be an issue to play a game that needs both screens close to eachothers, but this is still a better than hurting my hands.

Now we just have to hope Nintendo actually does this.
