Does the Wii U have an Ethernet port for wired connections?

The ps3 and 360 did but the Wii didn't. Have they fixed this problem?

no sadly, they are going to release a USB dongle for ethernet, like the Wii.

Since the adapter is a USB cable I assume the Wii one will work on a wii U?

Yes, on says on Nintendo website that you can use the Wii usb adapter.

A decent wireless router costs less than a full retail game, so maybe you should invest in one of those.

Just buy a Cisco-Linksys EA6500. All will be right in the world after that.
