Graphics have, and forever will be an important part of a gaming experience.

However, I believe we've entered a generation where the power of a console simply doesn't matter anymore. We've entered a generation where games that look as good as Rayman Legends and Call of Duty can run at 60 fps without falter, where we can have awe-inspiring art styles come to life in games such as Bioshock and Skyrim, and where, as of now, the least technically proficient console of this generation was able to produce games with visuals that look as good as Super Mario Galaxy and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

In this next generation, technology won't matter anymore when it comes to producing good looking visuals, it's the art that matters. If I can be blown away by Nintendo and Capcom's 3DS effort ala OoT 3D and Resident Evil: Revelations, I truly don't believe we need to worry about the graphical fidelity of the Wii U. Perhaps others have a keener eye than I for quality, but I believe the Wii U is going to have some damn nice looking games on it, from Nintendo's front and beyond.

Art, not necessarily atmosphere. Atmosphere is apart of art, but it isn't the whole showcase. If a game has an appealing art style, it doesn't need blundering amounts of technology behind it to prove that it's a good looking game. OoT 3D leaves my jaw dropping at times, not because it's an "amazing looking game", but because the use of lighting, camera, etc makes for some damn nice environments.

I don't get the people who say graphics don't matter. Sure, they aren't the most important aspect, but they have always been something that people looked at as a good thing. We are attracted to things that are aesthetically pleasing, and having good "graphics" is a key part of that. Does a game need a super high poly count to look good? No, but it will always look better with one.

How about we use the term 'aesthetics'. There is a LOT more to the visuals of a game than just art style alone. Take Xenoblade for example; The game has an art style that many people love, but it sure would look a hell of a lot better if it weren't held back by blurriness and low resolution.

I personally don't like the visuals of XB, but there's many things that contribute to that than just the overall art style.

Did anyone read the post I made? It seems like everyone read the title and decided they knew what I was talking about.

Yes, the only problem is that graphics aren't the only thing that power plays into. Things like physics engines and other things that rely on the CPU rather than the GPU are very important. It doesn't matter if a game looks slightly worse, what matters is if the processor can actually run the game or not.
