i know it won't play blu ray discs but what drive is in the console? a blu ray drive? i only say this because the wii's drive was a dvd drive but could only play wii games. it's all down to the software.

they won't be using a HD DVD drive or a dvd drive. or am i missing something here?

its a bluray like drive as the wii uses nintendos own optical disks with a capacity of 25GB single layer.

A Blu Ray-like drive. It probably uses the same color laser as a Blu Ray drive, but has some other differences (for example, the direction the disc spins).

PS3 sold in anticipation of PS4. If you added me (CrimsonEnigma), I won't be online for around a year.

yeah thought so. yeah, it's basically a blu ray drive spec and well as the discs. 25 single and 50gb dual if they ever need 50gb discs.

It'll be just a standard Blu-ray drive. There won't need to be any differences. We know it'll be a 5X drive, we know it'll be compatible with both the Wii's DVD-variant format and the Wii U's Blu-ray-variant format, and based on Nintendo's previous partnerships, it's likely that it will be manufactured by Panasonic.

Where are you getting the idea that the disc drive spins backwards? None of Nintendo's systems have done that before. (common myth, but not true)

Nintendo is using blu-ray for their next system, but no word on what tweaks they have made to try to make the games unreadable by PC drives.

The rumor about Wii spinning the disc backward to make it harder for pirates to copy the games comes from before the Wii launch.

That rumor started with the Gamecube, it was 100% busted by the dolphin team.

It was busted just by opening the GameCube lid and visually checking which way the disc was spinning.

True, but even then the rumor persisted, the same rumor popped up about the Wii, which is why I said 100% busted by the Dolphin team.
