Why do people constantly brag that their PCs are more pwerful than WiiU/PS3/720?

Oh please. Unless you build your pc like an idiot or download everything and infect it with viruses malware etc pcs are very reliable. Just have common sense.

It's certainly not difficult to get viruses. Even with an up-to-date virus scanner (Which, if turned on, drastically slows down your computer, eating up most of the advantage of running a PC), you can easily be infected just by visiting certain websites if you have any plugins that are even slightly out of date. Windows has so many ludicrous security holes that you pretty much have to babysit it at all times. And lets not forget the malware you have to install to run a lot of PC games.

Also, I've had numerous computer parts that have simply shorted out and failed (usually taking other parts with them) with no particular misuse occurring to them.

Consoles are just so much less of a hassle. Granted, with stuff like installs and firmware updates, PS3 and 360 are making every effort to bring the bad parts of PCs to consoles.

1: Having an antivirus running takes all of nothing.
2: Stop downloading illegal porn. Problem solve.

The only component that can take any other component with it is the power supply. Again, stop buying Rosewill.

Also, consoles tend to have pretty cheap power supplies. Much of the 360 failures are due to heat or power supply failure. PS3 also has a high PSU fail rate. Unlike PC, you don't get a choice for consoles.

Thats why pc gaming is hobbyists. People that don't mind going the extra mile to secure performance. While I've had ram occasionally go bad 100% of the other times were simply my own fault. Buy quality parts and you'll usually have a good experience as well. Buy some cheapo psu and chances are its going to fail and take other parts with it. Myself, I've had zero viruses with my current pc that I've been running for over a year and I use free virus/malware/adware scanners. A combination of common sense and being cautious of what you click on and download goes a long way.

Actually, being honest, I'm not the least bit cautious in what I click. Unless it's a completely obvious virus/scam, I don't think twice about clicking things.
Haven't had a single virus-related problem in the last few years.

Not really, I ran one pc with no antivirus install at all for like 5 years before it finally got hit with something. Oh there were the typical tracking cookies and trojans that wern't doing anything but it never had any major problems for years. Granted I do keep virus scanners installed on my current computer but with a script blocker and a modicum of caution most serious things don't get through. The vast, like 99% of all viruses arn't done by real hackers, they're morons with a few scripts that are easily handled by software. They rely on idiots clicking on everything they see(speically things like facebook links) and if you avoid that you tend to be ok.

Even when you do get one, safe mode -> system restore, problem solved.

Look you're illustrating the common misconceptions about pcs. You act as though you have to be some sort of wizard to use one and you don't. I give my pc about as much attention as I do my consoles, I slap a new video card in about every 5 to 6 years, and once processors advance enough that it's bottle necking I get a new system.

The last one I got instantly took out all system restores as the first thing it did. It also could not be stopped by an up-to-date virus scanner (it detected it but couldn't fix it), and it was acquired by simply visiting an infected page with a Java plugin that was slightly out of date.

Thankfully, Combofix is the god of all computer programs. But it was certainly not an easy one to get rid of.

No, you don't, but there's undeniably more to keep track of and more hassles with PCs.

I would much rather have a weaker, more stable PC to use for work / creative purposes and a console to use for gaming. Particularly since a weak PC can still play almost all PC exclusives anyway.

Besides, a weak PC can still play games better than a console.

Well it's pretty stupid if someone brags about their pc being more powerful then the WiiU/Ps3/360 because just about any new pc you buy is going to be more powerful then those systems, and in 5 years that pc will become obsolete unless if you buy parts for it.
