Why does it need all of these updates? Wouldn't it have made sense to just put this stuff directly into the console from the beginning. Not that it's a huge deal, but it's kinda weird.

Then the console launch would have been delayed. They're already building and have built a lot of launchday consoles, this firmware update would have to have been ready at least a month ago. It's like day one patches for games, the time it takes for a publisher to run it through QA, then physically manufacture and distribute discs can be used by the developers as an extra few weeks of testing and fixing.

Plus the people who want that day one download stuff can download it, while those who don't can choose not to and keep it from clogging up their Wii U with things they'll never use.

I think it's a pretty good move personally.

It's so the people who get the demo/preview models don't know absolutely everything about the console. There are some things Nintendo wanted to keep under wraps. Dunno why backwards compatibility is one such thing, but whatever.

"Third world countries" are 3 words.

Now, if you're stupid enough to point that out...

Especially when you consider the fact that, grammatically speaking, the correct way to phrase it would be "third-world countries." The hyphen technically makes it two words.

You are correct. Unfortunately, in America everyone charges insane prices, whether at home or cellular phone. Then you have to keep in mind that there is a lot of rural area in America, where broad-band and fiber optic cable just doesn't reach. Then there are patches of cities and communities in highly populated areas that simply do not have access to these things as well. I can't get higher than 1.3 mb/sec due to my location and lack of infrastructure. Not because I can't afford the next package for another $10 a month, but because it wouldn't change anything, so its pointless to upgrade to something that my internet provider cannot offer to me in my home.
