Nintendo fans are crazy. Why even buy a Wii U if you don't have an HDTV?

Why did people buy a Xbox 360 in 2005 when HDTV's were very not common?

I got a (36" IIRC) HDTV, 720p, for $300 in 2005. They were pretty common back then, just not as widespread as they are now.

WHY DON'T DEVELOPERS JUST ADD BOTH SD AND HDTV OPTIONS TO GAME TO RESIZE IT DEPENDING ON YOUR TV.

Lazy ass Devs

Lemme tell (er, type?) y'all something.

My family has had the same TV for, what I'm told, about 16 years. It's a 36" RCA. Y'know how outdated those damn things are? We've never bought an HDTV because there was nothing wrong with the one we have. We got an HD one 'bout a year ago, and it's in the basement for the 360. The Wii is on the main floor, with the old RCA. Unfortunately, as of about 2 years ago, the tubes in the TV have aged to the point where the image often messes up. We're now finally looking into a 50" plasma for the main floor, just in time for Wii U.

...My point is, we were never big on HDTV-hunting because our television worked and showed in good quality. TC is suggesting that HD is the only thing Wii U has going for it, so if our TVs are SD, there's no point in getting one. That's just silly. The old Wii composite (and component?) cables will work with Wii U, so I don't see much point in TC's query. A good (I'm talking +46") HDTV is much more costly than a Wii U, so don't even try to play the "too poor" card.

Also, there are too many threads dedicated to the "just buy an HDTV already" topic.

Nintendo fanboys are poor or just love ancient hardware. I mean, it's already 2012! You can get a $100 23 in 1080p monitor lol. Stop living in your basement

A 23 inch TV isn't even worth it. That's the size of my computer monitor. If I'm buying an HDTV, I'm getting at least 46 inches.

So why don't Devs just add 2 screen resolutions in their games? One for HDTV's, and one for SD? Kind of like how computers allow you to change resolutions and fits everything on the screen accordingly.

There has to be a way they can do this

I actually don't have one because my old TV still works. That and the channels look gross on it because I don't have HD channels.

Because its a waste of their time and money pandering to an obsolete format.
HD is the standard. They aim for the standard and rightly so.
