Sd tv's are called "sd" because, well they're the STANDARD. Why waste money and inflate the price if the standard def. (480p) still exists?

What back roads do you live in? Outside of a Disney kids tv at toys r us where else are you going to buy an SDTV?

...Because it looks better? Hell, theres a huge difference between even 720p and 1080p, 480p is ugly.

Why wait, look around and you can find some good deals already. Fry's had a LG 47 inch LCD 3dtv for only $398. Awesome deal considering I paid that much for a 32 inch a year ago.

480p is actually EDTV...
SDTV is 480i...
And it's called SDTV because it was the standard, HDTV is the new standard.
Come back in a few years and you will see how people act like 1080p60 is unplayable because of new standards.

Is it even possible to buy a new "SD tv"? Based on what is available in my local electronics retailers, I would argue that "HD" is the new standard, with "HD ready" as the lowest resolution available.

480 was made to standard in the ancient times. But things change and 1080p will be the new standard. Then 4000, then 10800, then 3D TV, then holograms and at last holodecks then 1080p holodecks. But god alone knows what we will have in 5 years
