I honestly feel Graphics have hit their peak.

Maybe for certain games like mario i can see your point, marios not really gonna look any better than on the wii u (at least with the 'new' art syle)

However realistic graphics can probably go a fair bit more.

Im looking forward to when graphics of high quality will be playable without slow down, with lots of stuff on screen and high level ai running around. That will be impressive.

Now I have no idea if they can do this since I don't follow this kind of stuff, but they should take a note from computers, and design the console to be able to have the graphics card (or w/e cards, etc) changed to satisfy all of the graphic whores. This way, people can stop complaining about graphics since they would have the option to upgrade it.

I watched that video of Witcher and it just looks like a PS3 game. Am I supposed to be impressed by that? It's nothing I haven't seen before. I even saw some videos of that Unreal Engine 4 and it just looks a bit more shiny and brighter. Not really a big graphics boost though. Guess we won't see a huge leap until PS5 or later. I don't really care how much better these games could look because I'm not so hung up on power like alot of you.

I was the same way. Until I actually PLAYED the Witcher 2 on almost max settings on a 1080p monitor. Watching a video with that high of a resolution and frame rate does no good... trust me, you actually have to play the game on the high settings with the montior that supports the resolution.

The title of this topic brings back memories. I actually remember people in the early '90s (90-92) thinking that graphics would never get much better than NEO GEO. The thought was "maybe a little better, but this is the top of the hill right here"

It will ALWAYS get better. Graphics 10 years from now would probably blow your mind if you saw them today.

The Samaritan and the Elemental Demo both showcase visuals that current console hardware couldn't touch, even in 480p.

I will have to check those out.

That would just turn consoles into computers, you realise this right?

If you're not playing on a PC, you haven't seen the best there is to offer. The graphics cap isn't even up for discussion when it comes to consoles.

Was just going to say he must no be playing on the PC. I made the switch a year ago, and boy howdy what a difference. Graphically and Control wise.

Those Kotaku shots are nice. Honestly, though, they don't pop out at you like PS2 to PS3/360 jump in graphics.

They are nice, but so it the original graphics too; and I think that's what the OP was getting at. Eventually, and it will be very soon, we are going to be hitting a plateau for graphics. From there I'd rather them work on AI/physics. Graphics are already crazy good/getting crazier good. I mean, some of those screen shots are photo realistic already. From there it's how much you can cram onto the screen..and AI/physics.

PC's have no limits. Consoles, though....yea.

Lol thats no where near the difference between 240 and 360 ppi or 360 to HD. Seriously graphics have nearly hit their peak and those photos look like the peak. Its only so far you can go till thinks look like real life, and graphics are nearly there already. Seriously someone try and dispute this. Btw when i said i agreed with the OP it was an exaggeration, what i meant is that their is very little room for improvement with graphics.

Graphics are at their peak, but for a different reason. They're at their peak because only titles with $20 mil can pull them off. With that kind of budget, there isn't much room for actual innovation. It's too big of a risk. So yeah, we can have better graphics, but at what cost? The same gameplay we've had for the past 10 years?

This isn't even remotely true. Most of those huge budget games you hear about don't have such a high budget just to pump out amazing graphics, the sad truth is that millions of that budget are put solely toward marketing. CD Projekt Red aren't particularly huge, and The Witcher 2 didn't really cost that much to develop relative to its contemporaries, and it's one of the best looking games out right now.

seriously, no one praises Crysis for its gameplay, from what I can see, most people just use it to test out how powerful their PCs are

Anyone who's actually played it tends to have pretty good things to say. The openness of the maps allow you to approach just about any situation from multiple angles, the physics were fantastic, and the AI could be pretty good (though it was easy to break with cloaking).
