Does the Wii U only hook up to an HD TV?

My family has ancient technology. We do not have an HD TV. However, they might be getting me a Wii U for Christmas. Would I need an HD TV to play it or can I use the big flat screen non HD I have in my room?

If you have a Wii use that cable.
If not, buy a Wii AV/component cable. I've seen them in retail.

Yeah if you already have a Wii, use those regular red/white/yellow cables for the Wii U. It only comes with an HDMI cable, that works for HDTVs only.
