Donkey Kong Country Returns is the best DK game..?

Yeah, I'd say DKCR is easily on par with the original trilogy overall and in many ways an improvement. The challenge was definitely ramped up in DKCR. I thought the original trilogy was pretty easy, but DKCR had the perfect amount of challenge, and some levels were just brutal if you were going for 100%.

Out of all the "flaws" that people mention, the only one I might agree with was the lack of water levels. However, DKCR had better level design and seemed to have more variety even without the water levels. The waggle complaint is a very nitpicky issue since it was perfectly responsive and did not negatively affect gameplay in any way.

It's really hard to find much to legitimately complain about with this game. Out of 77 reviews on metacritic there's not a single negative one, and only 4 are considered "mixed".

i loved dkcr, fully beat it. I would say its on par with the original trilogy. The area i found it lacking in were the ridable animals and the kind of charm the overworld provided in the older games with candys save shack and wrinkly kong, and all the cool stuff dkc3 offered in its overworld.

Also yeah the enemies suck. Kremlings are way better.

Close. DKC2 nukes it though.

It edges out DKC2 for me. DKCR has better level design and more content, though I'll DKC2 credit for having far better music and atmosphere.

Best of all time? Maybe. It is an amazing game, especially when you factor in Co-op. It's definitely the hardest with challenge modes.

I just wish I could experience the co-op, none of my friends have ever been willing to play it with me. The few I convince to play it get bored after the third level or so.

Not sure how people could possibly think DKCR has good variety and level design, when every level seems the same. (aside from those garbage mine cart and rocket barrel levels)

I loved DCKR. Was such a fantastic game and I was so happy to have a new DKC. I don't like the tikis much. I'm thankful they got rid of the underwater levels. Probably one of my least favorite things in all of video games is underwater levwls. The music for those levels were so good tho.

Complaints about controls are not nitpicking at all. If you had the choice of playing the original DKC trilogy with traditional controls or waggle controls would you honestly choose waggle? I know my choice and I bet I would not be alone.

I don't get the hate for the underwater levels. They were some of the best in my opinion. That being said at least we both agree that the underwater levels had some excellent music.

I like DKC1 and 2 more. They have a certain charm to it that Returns doesn't have. World map of Returns is also a bit on the straightforward side and the forced waggle takes away some precision. I feel the levels themselves are a bit too rollercoaster like. The old DKC games had some more exploration inside the levels, whereas this one feels like you're constantly required tobpusb forward at a high pace in just about every level.

DKCR is definitely very good, but overal design could've been better in terms of being a DKC game.
