Kids are sooo spoiled these days. When I was 5 I got an nes and was happy with it. Get them that.

NES is actually pricey too by that time. $249 for first release bundle 1985-ish

all Nintendo system is for kids, so anything Nintendo brand suitable for them, you decide.

I'm actually thinking of holding off to do the update because I'll be to tempted to play the darn thing. I just want to stick the tip in...

You can do the update in the background while you play. Just leave the thing on until you're sure it's completely finished.

You are a brave man, if you are really handing a $150 controller to a 3 yr old and a 5 yr old. This system was definitely not made with tiny kids in mind, like the Wii before it.

Just get external hard drives for both of them, and then it doesn't matter.

I'd update them for them lol, unless they don't mind sitting there watching a download bar go across the screen for a few hours (depending on your connection speed). Also, it's up to you to decide which version you want to give them. The real advantage of the black Wii U is that it has much more memory, so you can download more games and DLC content without having to go back and free up space. Since your kids won't really understand file management it might be a better idea to give them the larger sized one, but then again, chances are they won't even need that extra memory.

So yeah, it's up to you lol

You missed what I was saying. I meant that kids today are so spoiled with these modern video games and HD graphics, that they won't like or appreciate any of the classic games. Like nes, snes, n64, genesis, ps1, etc. If someone showed them games from those systems, they'd call them crap just because they're outdated. And wouldn't even give them a chance. It's wrong.

I have to disagree with you. My children absolutely love playing the classic games.

Give the kids both Wii's and you go get a grown-ups console. Unless you still at your age really like jumping on the heads of goombas. If so then you should get a coloring book for yourself too.

Depends on your needs. Want white look in your living-room or wherever you will have it. Or black? Give the kids the Basic. Since they're so young they do not need anything but that. And I guess Super Mario will entertain both of them for a loong while. :)
