Price Drop Inevitable

In my opinion, one of the greater obstacles to the Wii U's success is the price. Aside from available games, 350$ is a lot to ask when there's still some competition from other consoles that are discounted for the holidays. I predict a price drop similar to the 3DS.

I don't doubt it with how low it's selling.

Nintendo will avoid a 3DS-like price drop at all costs. If they drop it anywhere near as quickly (and they will not do so unless absolutely necessary) then it will be a small drop. If they drop it by anywhere near the same kind of level (and again, they won't, unless absolutely necessary), then they won't do it quickly.

The 3DS and Wii U are very different items, financially. The 3DS was marked up heavily, way beyond the point where it needed to be profitable, leaving Nintendo a very large scope for price decreases when they did decide to drop the price. The Wii U is not marked up to anywhere near the same extent - in fact, if we believe Nintendo, it's not marked up at all, and is selling at a loss, which means that Nintendo cannot reduce its price in the same way that the did for the 3DS.

The absolute earliest we'll see a pricedrop is probably around November 2013. No way they drop it sooner.

Price drops always happen, however a price drop within at least the first 6 months is EXTREMELY rare. Besides all consoles have that hump of full priced new hardware vs discounted old hardware.

Depends on E3.

If they show the next consoles, run some tech demo's and get some people hyped for it I can see the price dropping before that.

Exactly. Price drop for Orbis and Durango launch.

The Wii U is awesome. Looking forward to adding the Durango and Orbis to my collection in a year or so. All three companies are awesome.
