Hologram projector with a powered up Kinect AND a super powerful console? Get ready to pay 1500$ for the thing

No way the hologram thing is true, do we even have that technology yet? Perhaps, but no way it's going to be cheaply accessible

It's not a hologram, it's just a projector that displays images surrounding it on the walls. They never mentioned the quality of it so it may not be that good and it's just a patent, not an actual product they're releasing anytime soon. Could be 10 years from now when that technology would be dirt cheap.

and yes, the technology is here

Holographic keyboard, retails for around $160

Of course we have that technology, projectors have been here for decades. Attempting to cover an entire room though is another story. But if the quality of the image is good then it could be very impressive.

The Sony one was patented in May 2011, 1 month before the Wii U was announced

This particular patent was filed in May 2011, and made public in PDF format this week. As always, remember a patent is not a promise, so this is all hypothetical stuff.

The Microsoft one was in early 2011

Microsoft's patent application for an "immersive display experience" was published by the US Patent Office last week after being filed back in early 2011. It describes a standard video game system with a connected "environmental display" capable of projecting a panoramic image that "appears to surround the user."

this isn't their response to the Wii U. It has nothing to do with the Wii U.

Awesome! that projector will go amazingly well with my perfectly rectangular room with no other furniture, light sources, or people!

I know you are being sarcastic, but I was actually wondering about that.

My man cave is shaped oddly and pretty damn wide open. Where my 2 TV's are, there is only half of a left wall and no back wall. I will end up buying whatever this thing is because I always do, and I wonder.. will this thing work in my area?

160$ for just that, the new thing would need to project from multiples angle for it to work correctly, imagine the cost. (Plus it's totally stupid and will require even more ridiculous room requirement than the Kinect).
