Is this Nintendo being lazy?

I was wondering why they had the somewhat inconvenient Wii + Wii U menu. Why didn't they just implement Wii information into the Wii U interface? The jumping between different versions of the menu seems a bit lazy. Was there any specific announcement on why they chose this set up?

It is because of the way that they had to structure their BC so that the wii side and wii U sides of the OS could operate on each of their respective coding structures.

Nintendo chose to include the entire wii OS (this is also why wii games look better on wii U) instead of using a emulator,it is a good thing since emulation rarely works as good as it's counterpart.

Further proof about it being the Wii's original OS is the fact that the memory that can be used for wii saves & vc items is the same amount of blocks as the wii,the wii OS cannot read to/from the wii U's side of the HDD.

If sharing info on the same HDD was that problematic,then I'm glad that they chose the more reliable and better (albeit more cumbersome) structure of 2 OSes under 1 roof.

The Wii is emulated so it makes sense that its a separate thing.
