So who else has to plan how they play based on the crappy battery life.

There's accessories http://www.nyko.com/products/product-detail/?name=UBoost+%28Black%29

or could just use a pro controller like the other consoles ("rechargeable battery lasts up to 80 hours on single charge").

Battery is weak and Nintendo is cheap, but most users won't notice and there's tons of options.

I like how you quote half of what I said.

I like it too! High five!

Anyways If you don't believe me feel free to do research into smartphones and battery life especially on older smartphones not from this year. I know I've done plenty.

Do share that research. I'd love some proof to your claim.

Also my old phone was about a year old. Battery life decay is normal.

Wow, some of the people who are down on the battery life on this controller, seem to have an agenda- your reactions or overreactions seem very strong to something that isn't that big of a deal.

The controller has a screen that is always on, that equals power consumption. Nintendo probably could have used a different battery but it probably would have increased the price. 3 hours is not great but the charging cable makes charging the thing really easy.

I know people out there play games for longer than 3 hours straight but of those hours, how much time is spent in a position where you just can't plug the thing in to get some charge?

This seems like a nit-picky topic by someone who doesn't like the system.

Thanks for refuting yourself. The average battery life of smartphones is basically double of the gamepad.

No need to pigeon hole us. I love the system, but the battery life is unacceptable.

Lol I never argued that smart phones don't have a better battery life then the wii u gamepad so good job winning an argument I never made? You must be very proud of yourself. I said most smartphones have a crappy battery life. Considering you take your phone everywhere having them not die is a bit more important then having to recharge your gamepad when at home. I said MY cell phone won't last 3 hours when in use. With a year of battery life decay from charging clearly from those numbers you can see how thats easily achievable.

You guys do eat or go to the bathroom, right? So use that time to leave the U Pad in its charging dock.

More than one hour in the bathroom? Damn! Not passing at all, huh?

Very funny, you joker, you :P What I'm trying to say is, use any small breaks you may take to have the U Pad in its charging dock.

You mean those smartphones that do thousands of things besides "just streaming" and that still last twice more than the gamepad before needing to recharge?

Considering you take your phone everywhere having them not die is a bit more important then having to recharge your gamepad when at home.

Maybe Nintendo should stop false advertising the thing as a wireless controller when it's a fake wireless.

PS3/Xbox 360 controllers don't run out after a few minutes. And the "one hour = break" excuse is so incredibly pathetic a new word is required to describe it.

Any ideas for said word?

The best I've got is two words: common sense.

If you consider that pathetic, then that says more about your unhealthy habits than anything else.

Consider how much more the system would cost if the battery life was longer. This is not an iPad.
