I am a Euro Wii U user. Couldn't get onto it. Set up parental controls and can access it now.

Yeah but you have been spamming that in many threads without proof. Yet many other EU owners are not backing you up at all. Smells fishy.

Either way, it should be more intuitive than this. I'm 22, I'm obviously going to skip parental controls in the setup process, why would I think I ever need them?

They should come unlocked from the factory and then it should be up to parents to set them up if they need to. This just makes Nintendo look even more kiddy than usual.

I've set up parental controls, the only thing I can do is fully locking content(like the browser, e-shop, etc.), and only on the first option, can you decide which age-restrictions you want to have, I put it to allowing everything
Doesn't change a bit, still can't watch the Mass Effect 3 trailer

Yeah, seems like that poo111111 fella is lying through his teeth for some unknown reason.

I ask you Europeans what is to stop a 16 or 17 year old kid from waiting till 11pm and downloading an M rated game?

Nothing at all. Nothing stops younger children from doing this either. In fact, often, people aged between 15 and 17 (inclusive) will find it easier to stay up past 2300 than their parents. This is why I'm saying it's possible that this contravenes German law - this restriction is not an age restriction at all.

Since there weirdly seems to be some debate over whether parental controls can get around this - I set up the parent controls settings on my 3DS (for the first time ever, since, like mcsmellington, I'm an adult, and I have no children, so why would I ever touch those?), and checked to ensure that there were no restrictions set, and I still wasn't able to access age-rated content, getting the message saying that it's not available at this time.

I can't completely confirm that the Wii U works the same way as the 3DS but I'd be shocked if it were somehow different.

By the way, previously I was able to access and download the MGS3 demo (the same thing I used to test today) from the 3DS eShop and I am fairly confident that I wouldn't have accessed it between 2300 and 0300, meaning I downloaded it outside of those times. That's another thing that the people weirdly still claiming it's due to German law have to explain - how come I was able to access that several months ago but can't now?

Funny, proof is never needed for negative stuff,
Hypocrite much?
