If your Wii U needs to be replaced, make Nintendo replace it - they'll TRANSFER your NNID to the new system.

It's also a hell of a lot cheaper than going out and buying a brand new system.

Yep. I already had to do that with a 3DS that was broke. Sent it to Nintendo and they transferred the console account to the new machine. No game loss.

I still own (and play) my NES mario games. This is a non-issue for most people.

Right, will they transfer your NNID if your console is stolen, burned in a fire or it's outside of warranty and you buy a new one from the store?
