I made it through the single player without them, but me and my bro apparently lost all rational thought and critical thinking skills we once had when we tried the MP.

That does tend to happen, you should have seen iomega and I stumble through the Splinter Cell Conviction coop campaign. One mission took us hours to get through because we suddenly lost the ability to be stealthy. The first area took us an hour and a half, and it's five minutes long when done right.:-P
