Wii U cannot connect to TV?

The TV I have only has component and composite inputs, and I have component cables (red, white, green, blue, and red). I tried all the input channels and switching the cables around, but nothing shows up on the TV.

I could connect it via HDMI to another TV, but that's in a different room.

Just curious on a side note, would I be able to use my laptop as a monitor via it's HDMI port?

Thanks, Merry Christmas!

I don't see why it wouldn't work with the laptop.

You need to go into settings and change the Wii U output method from HDMI to component. Then you will get images on your screen. You can do this from the gamepad.
