I think it's BS that almost everyday I have to have my GamePad connected to a wall outlet in order to play my games. The battery life on this damn controller stinks!

Just plug it I. When not using it... Unless you are playing 4+ hours nonstop, it shouldn't be a big issue.

If Nintendo made a USB charger for the Wii U Gamepad then it would have to have a driver that PCs would be able to recognize otherwise it might cause a heap of trouble for the PC (coming from experience).

Not exactly sure why an extension cord would just work...

Buy an extension cable and place it near where you sit then just plug it in... problem solved.

They already have.

Nyko can be trusted as they've made stuff like this for Nintendo before. They made the battery pack for the 3ds too. Thankfully, this is cheap. So you should have no worries.

Wrong. Simply using a USB port for power-only makes any driver, OS, or software completely irrelevant. If the device doesn't need to interact with the OS then it doesn't have to. Ever plug in a USB fan, or anything of the sort?

The problem is largely due to the fact that a USB 2.0 point isn't going to provide enough power to really charge that gamepad. That's why they use a wall charger.

One of the few redeeming qualities about this generation of consoles was standard wireless controllers......Nintendo has good ideas, but they are terrible at executing them.

terrible isn't a word i'd use for it.
lacking maybe. But they are trying something new for the first time there are bound to be hurdles unknown.
and as mentioned there is already a solution for this problem...

I thought how nice a USB charger would be on the toilet today. I can't even really play my Wii U right now because it's freezing in my place. I'd rather have my personal heater plugged in than my Gamepad charging while I play. I don't want to do both and risk a blow-out.
