Digital Foundry: Mario Bros U is a joke. A mix between sub HD and HD textures

Mario Bros U is a joke

Well, yeah, but that's what you get for continuing to push this trite series.

Mario Bros U is one of the best multiplayer games of all time. NSMBW was already amazing, but they've made a bunch of little refinements that makes it a lot better and more competitive while remaining hilarious.

For example, during coin rush, killing someone now makes them lose a percentage of their coins, which you can pick up. In the previous game, it only acted as a deterrent to them scoring more coins, but now it's actively encouraged. The 5 player placing the blocks can also cause ungodly amounts of havoc, but it's not totally helpless for the players either because they can still wall-jump off the blocks or break them. It's remarkably well thought-out in general.

And before some dope says it, no, this game wouldn't be enhanced at all by having online. Having one of your friends pick on you using the touchpad because you're winning or the best one there is funny. Having it happen online because you're not part of their clan would not be. And without the yelling and screaming 90% of the humour value would be lost.

Seems to me TC is already pretty good at it. He's provoked about 50 replies, after all.

Then again, that's not really a high bar to clear on this board, is it? Considering how easy it is for trolls to provoke people on the WiiU forum into feeding them.

Also, this is a 2D platformer. Unless they go to stylized 2D graphics, there really isn't much farther to go.

Uhh, how about actually making the game look like it does on the cover?

Heck of a big difference between the two in environmental detail, character models, textures, antialiasing, resolution, lighting, etc.

Absolutely. Which shows that the in-game graphics have a heck of a lot of opportunity to improve. Even moreso when they literally have the exact same style and setting as the in-game visuals.
