Wii U 349.99 compared to Xbox 360 launch price of 399.99 not adj. for inflation

#1ElGadoPosted 1/13/2013 8:11:29 AM(edited)
Due to inflation, the actual price of the Xbox 360 in 2005 was $471.51. Plus tax that brings it to over $500.

So when people make up these arguments that the Wii U is the same price as the 360 was at launch, and it's doing better, that is false. Xbox 360 was more powerful and more expensive at it's time.

Wii U is still way more expensive than it should be due to the old hardware and lackluster features.

That's funny, because your argument actually proves my point that the Wii U is not expensive at all. 360 is not more powerful than Wii U, and it took YEARS for the 360 and PS3 to get to where they are now. It was not an overnight occurrance like some of you think it is. Oh, BTW, see you in 5 years, because that's how long the Wii U is stickin' around for.

When I first started reading this topic this is what I thought. Then I read the second half of the post and it made no sense to me.

It seems like most of the people on this board have never experienced a console launch or something. Games always look worse at the beginning of a console's life. One example that came to mind was SM64 and Conker's Bad Fur Day.

Oh, btw. the NES deluxe launched at $199, which today works out at $425.
An Atari 2600 would cost $728...

A Ford Model T would cost $21,000

You also forget that the economy was much better back then, so people were able to afford more then than they can now.

Nice try, though.

The launch Xbox 360 was pretty much held together with duct tape and twine. It was so cheaply made. I should know - I still have mine.

It RROD'd so many times that I just gave up sending it for repairs. Plus, it didn't have HDMI and it even lacked WiFi (seriously)

And nowadays, it lacks compelling exclusives anymore, I don't care for Halo and to be quite frank, if this keeps up I won't even get the next X-Box either. I recall what a nightmare the original 360 was to use though. The Slim took care of just about all the problems, BUT it just doesn't have the games whereas Wii U has a ton of them right now (I have 7 games for it already), and more down the pipeline, what more could I ask for?

People had more money to spend in 2005, TC. Now people don't, due to economic recession and higher cost on product. Much harder to spend $300 now than it was to spend $500 back in 2005
