The friend list is useless. Let's talk about ways in which it could be fixed

I think I've talked about how useless the friend list is on the WiiU before, so I won't bother doing that in this topic.

I would simply like to be able to message my friends directly without opening up miiverse to begin with. Sure, I can currently just use miiverse instead. But that defeats the purpose of the friend list.

I would also like to be able to send friend requests via the friend list. Right now, typing in someone's NNID in the friend list doesn't request them. The WiiU will prompt you to tell your friend to enter your ID too...like friend codes. Sure, I can currently use miiverse instead to simply send a friend request to someone. But that defeats the purpose of the friend list.

A "Join" feature. Similar to what the 3ds has where you can join in on your friend's online multiplayer games right from the home menu.

It's to the far left when you press the home button.

Bump.

Perhaps a update list will merge your friend list with miiverse. Right now, it feels like something Nintendo included before they decided to forego friend codes entirely.

Yeah, the Friend List feels...tacked on. Particularly the method of friending which, as you mentioned, is very much like the Friend Code system. The strange part is, if you try to friend someone via their Miiverse profile, it's exactly like sending a friend request on PSN or XBL; there's no need for them to enter your Nintendo Network ID to see the request. So it's not as though Nintendo won't let you just friend people you meet online, you just have to do it through Miiverse, which is rather unintuitive.

If Nintendo keeps the feature, they should just integrate the Miiverse messaging and friending functions into the Friend List instead of having them be completely separate. That way it acts like a lite version of the Miiverse app that you can use to manage and communicate with the people you've friended.

Seriously? If nintendo wants to shed the "kiddy" stigma it has, they needs to start treating their consumers like adults and not children.

They need to fully integrate it and stop making it such a chore.

Honestly, I'm kind of hoping that the next update comes in the form of a wrecking ball so that Nintendo can change a few things about the WiiU menu in general.

If you do it the other way, that step is eliminated (which is odd, but at least it fixes the problem)

Metroid Zero Mission and Super Metroid are some of the finest 2D games ever made and are the best in the series.
Metroid Fusion is pretty cool I guess.
