21K systems sold last week - Nintendos Wii U problems turn into a crisis.
If 300 or 350 dollars is too much for you please get a new hobby. Ugh. Poor people.
Videogames are a hobby and Nintendo does it badly stay mad.
They'll always need men like us. Those who are willing to do what others cannot.

wingo84 posted...Typed Nintendo into Google news... No other news site seems to be reporting on the "crisis" that Nintendo are in.
It would be interesting to know exactly what goes through these 'reporters' heads when devising these articles...
Interesting chart !

These low numbers after the holidays is nothing different. I'm more concerned about the PS3 and 360 taking 6-7 years to actually start selling in high quantities.

The Wii U is suffering from several problems, which it has from the initial reception. Customer confusion is among those. For many who see the Gamepad with the touchscreen, without the console and whole explanation behind it, might even confuse it for a portable.
Seriously, the confusion at the E3 press conference when it was unveiled was just baffling. Nintendo can't sell it properly. They may have made a neat product, but they've completely failed to advertise and sell it to the customers, to convince people that "you want this". They can't really explain it or show it in an interesting way like they did with Wii, so they can't hook people out of curiousity.
Then there's the problem that for all the potential behind the Gamepad, they have essentially made a "Catch-up" console, released in a time when news about the true next generation consoles are popping up, causing people to wait. Lack of proper, new and system-selling games doesn't help. Releasing year old games only gives one the impression that this console is released to catch up to the games that current consoles are already playing, but it offers barely anything new. Considering the high price, if people had wanted to play Arkham City by now, they could have afforded a 360 or PS3 a long time ago for prices far below the Wii U.
Combined with the lack of announced triple-A titles and no proof that this is indeed a next generation console, it's no wonder why the sales are dwindling.
I'm still waiting for a good reason to buy it. I don't have anything against Nintendo, I already have a Wii. I've owned every console they've made, but so far they've given me no reason yet to get a Wii U for the price and the lack of games they offer.
Besides, it doesn't even have a trophy system. People might growl at trophies, but don't ignore the fact that a LOT of gamers are addicted to the stuff, and it could be the reason for choosing which platform to play on. For me it is. I even bought Duke Nukem Forever on the PS3 instead of the PC for that.
All luck to Nintendo, this will probably blow over and the tide will turn, but they seriously need to step it up. I do however, suspect a full offensive at this year's E3, hopefully with the revelation of Smash Bros, Zelda and Mario. If they at that point can't give any further reasons to buy it, I'm not sure they'll ever will.
