Is Zelda:SS really that terrible, or is it an over-exaggeration?

It's obviously an exaggeration, they say the same thing about EVERY Zelda game after it comes out .

Fixed

People hated the hell out of Majora's Mask, now it's loved.
Then, they hated Wind Waker, that's loved now, too.
Then, it became Twilight Princess' turn to be hated, then loved.
And now, it's Skyward Sword's turn to be vilified.

I guaran-damn-tee that the next Zelda game will take all of Skyward's hate, and Skyward will then be loved.

lol if the zelda cycle exists then explain how more then half the people in this topic praise ss?

I gotta agree with this. Many people had a hatred for each game due to their tedious gameplay features.

MM had the mask collection, WW had the islands, TP had the bug gathering.

I can see those who hate SS now quickly turn to loving it and once the next one is out, the haters will find something to hate about that one. The cycle is neverending when it comes to a popular series like this, someone has to gripe about something stupid.

I though Phantom Hourglass was mediocre... Then I played Spirit Tracks, and its on rails, zero exploration overworld made me appreciate that for all its faults, PH at least had exploration intact.

You know, I didn't have any problems with the controls, but the fact that a recalibrate button exists proves that motion control gaming is a long way from viable.

This is true. The fact that there's a dedicated button for recalibrating the gyro aiming on the fly proves that there is an issue.

Broken aiming controls with a patch to fix them everytime they stop doing what they're supposed to, which is quite often.

99% of the time the controls do what they are supposed to do. The problem is that a lot of people don't understand why the aim goes "off centre" and thus think there is something wrong with the controls. The game does the same as d-pad down when you take an item out. So if you take an item out, while the remote is pointing down, you center aim will be pointing down.

This has in my opinion to advantages:

1) The camera doesn't start to spin when you, for example, take out you bow while not pointing at the screen.
2) There isn't a set point where you need to aim the remote so it's easier to play in different positions, for example, playing while lying down.

So I think the fault isn't the controls, but the instructions given by the game.

Skyward Sword is among my least favourite Zelda's. The major flaws are very noticable. Spoilers from here on out by the way, don't read if you don't want to be spoiled.

- Sky World has nothing to do. Sure you can explore the sky as you wish. But there is nothing you need to do in it. There's like 4 places of importance you really head to, Skyloft itself, The Lumpy Pumpkin for some plot quests. The portals for the regions, And the temple in the thunderhead for plot reasons. Everywhere else is just small rocks with Rupees on them, Piece of Heart if you are lucky. Mini Game if you are very lucky (Though there's like, 2 in total).
- Re-using levels. This is really bad. There are 3 floor areas in the game. Forest, Volcano and Desert. Each one asks you to essentially replay through the same area three times through though which gets annoying and boring very fast (Take Eldin which you need to do 4 times in total, first ascend through the level to the temple at the top, then run through the level again in the Silent Realm for the Test of Power, then run through it again whilst escorting Scrapper to the top, then get through it AGAIN whilst avoiding detection from the enemies to reach the dragon. It got boring the second time)
- Likewise re-using bosses sucks to. Fight Girahim 3 times, fight The Imprisoned 3 times. I know they become harder but facing the same enemies again is just tedious and boring. You also have to face the Scorpion Boss twice as well. Second time being reduced to a Mini Boss.
- Fi is annoying as hell. Seriously, after the fun and snarky midna that you grow an attachment to on the game. Fi just plain sucks. Popping in to tell you what is plainly obvious on the screen, or if your batteries are running low. Her robotic tone and slow text is annoying to. She's seriously worse than Navi at times.
- The combat. It's fun at first, but eventually it just becomes a game of Simon Says with the Enemies. Basically look which way the enemy is blocking off with their swords. Swing right way, repeat for whole game. The Delay you get with the Wii-Mote reaction as well is frustrating to. With the enemy switching their sword position just before your swing goes of. Becomes doubly annoying when the Electric Enemies are introduced.
- Lastly the final boss is disappointing. It's essentially Ganondorf. I know they don't call it Ganondorf but it really is just Ganondorf. We don't learn enough about him to care too much about him and there is no tension in the fight. Compare it to the Ganondorf in Twilight Pricess after you beat Beast Ganon and Midna finishes Ganondorf off, you and Zelda escape, all is well, until you see Ganondorf on his Black Horse with Midna's Helmet in his hand. You get the sudden emotional rage to beat Ganondorf for what he did to Midna. this final boss in comparison you just feel no emotional attachment in beating.

Those are my reasons to why I think Skyward Sword is bad. Counter them if you can. I do want hear if people can think of why those bad points are actually good ones.

Its a great game, not the best Zelda, but its still great. The motion controls were a nice change, and worked well, the story was great, some of it was a bit repetitive but hey, it was still a great game.

All of those things are optional sidequests, and people still ***** about the sailing in TWW. Quite often.

Skyward Sword has major design flaws, far beyond "tedious" sidequests.

honestly i wish the zelda cycle was real so people would stop treating tp as a black sheep.
but it doesn't exists.
if it did were was oot's cycle of hatred? or alttp? or zelda 1?

plus there's a bs line it doesn't affect handheld zeldas,if it exists it would simple as that.
