In all seriousness though that's not a bad idea...it wouldn't hurt anything. Zelda games may take just a bit more time to develop though seeing as how models would be needed for male and female Link.

Not if it was optional...give the players gender choice.

If there is multplayer in this upcoming Wii U Zelda, I wouldn't rule out a playable female character. Depending on how multiplayer is, it could very well be a version of Link or something like a Link from a different time/world.
As for as a main playable character, I'd say most likely on a portable system.
