I'm thinking of picking one up since 32gb may not be enough.

The wii u supports up to 2 terabytes. The hard drive should have its own power source or a y cable connection to the wii u. Additionally, I recommend you search for compatibility, as some hard drives have been reported to be iffy or straight up not working. Nintendo has a list of compatible drives and a more in-depth faq I recommend you read since this isn't exactly a cheap purchase.
