EA on Wii U: Not a next-gen console

#121guttertalkPosted 1/31/2013 12:23:31 AM
This is the company that said about the Wii U:

"Nintendo's next console is truly transformational as well: a better platform than we've ever been offered by Nintendo, deeper online capability and all of it driven by an unprecedented partnership between Nintendo and Electronic Arts."

Maybe Nintendo fans were suckers to believe this from EA, but folks now putting stock into what EA says about the Wii U aren't any better. It's obvious that EA says what they need to say to position themselves. That doesn't mean they speak some truth. It's obvious that something went sour between EA and Nintendo. No one really knows what.

Remember that EA didn't support the Dreamcast because they wanted exclusivity deal that Sega wouldn't give. It wasn't about the Dreamcast being an inferior platform.

So, stop trying to pretend that PR guys say exactly what they mean.

EA's problem is they like graphical powerhouses instead of solid gameplay and innovative ways to play. So it's really not surprise that they're not impressed with the WiiU. EA stopped being relevant after the PS2 era. Need proof of EA's crappy gameplay with great graphics? See the latest Medal of Honor on PC. Great looking game, garbage gameplay.

You're right. Battlefield, Mass Effect, Fifa, Madden all just utterly irrelevant series right?

you have to ignore the trolls, in the age of companies dropping left and right, EA has managed to stay among the biggest out there. isnt it weird that a company that so many people say isnt relevant, and sucks so much is one of the biggest?

anyone else notice when a company a person hates publishes a great game people yell "they didnt have anything to do with the game being good". yet when that same company publishes a bad game people yell "well its their fault the game was bad."

if the game is good EA didnt touch it, if the game is bad, they had their hands all over it. even though the people who worked on mass effect and dragon age admitted EA didnt have their hands on the creative process.

nothing they said then contradicts what was said today. they didnt even say "wii-u is not next gen". they said gen-4 is yet to come. which is true, because the next consoles will be bigger and stronger than the wii-u, cant say next gen is here, when the veteran HD consoles have yet to release the next heavy hitters.

the hilarious thing is many people here didnt even read the whole interview, where EA praised the wii-u, all they see is a title with words EA didnt speak, and let their rage build from that.

I think I get what you're trying to say king_madden. They're talking about the "battle" of gen-4, and that battle hasn't started yet because only one company has entered the arena at this point. To be honest, if EA really felt Nintendo was not worth putting games on as implied by the people that thought that Wii U wasn't next gen, then we wouldn't have any games from them on it, would we?

Cant believe I actually agree with EA on something lol. Hopefully Nintendo just calls it quits soon and focuses on software instead of luck luster hardware.

I'd like to point out they say "What we're calling gen 4". So basically they're saying that it isn't a next gen console by their own made up, non-conventional standards. It is, however, a gen 8 console.

business tactic + already owning huge amount of money = Good company?
They were voted as worst company in America for a reason -.-
EA sucks up all the good studios make them make mediocre games and chops them apart to make money from dlc -.-
Madden is same ****ing game every time with tiny bit of update, Mass Effect 1 & 2 was never part of EA and ME3 caused tons of rage, and Battle field is going down hills.

how is battlefield going down hill when the last installment was viewed as a good game or are you doing the whole its my opinion and its a fact thing. they were a big company and have managed to stay that way for a reason as well. as far as the whole worst company thing, think about who would vote for them, whining gamers who feel entitled, and believe ea is to blame for online pass and dlc. i mean seriously, they were voted over companies who have put families on the street and taken millions from innocent people, but a gamer sees optional dlc and optional online pass and feel its the greatest injustice in the world, you cant possibly take that worst company thing seriously us in the real world dont.

"Gen 4"?

So Gen 3 = PS3 / 360 / Wii U, Gen 2 = PS2 / Xbox / Wii / DC and Gen 1 = N64 / PS1 / Saturn?

I guess they've forgotten that they made games as far back as Commodore 64, in Generation -2.
